- Title change from EMS Inventory Specialist to Fire Inventory Specialist is pending Council approval.
To plan, organize, coordinate and participate in the functions of central emergency medical services (EMS) and fire suppression supply ordering, receiving, storing, distributing and surplus disposal operations; and to perform a variety of technical tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Receives general direction from an assigned supervisor. May exercise supervision over assigned staff.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Functions may include, but are not limited to, the following: operate an emergency medical services (EMS) inventory and fire suppression storeroom and monitor and maintain physical inventory; coordinate and distribute Fire Department uniforms, EMS and fire suppression materials, supplies, equipment and materials; arrange purchase, repair, and maintenance of uniforms, facility equipment and appliances; research and recommend vendors that source EMS supplies and fire suppression supplies, equipment and medicine; place orders, recommend appropriate stock levels, and follow up with suppliers as may be required; process purchase requests; input information into an assigned computer system; generate related requisitions, paperwork, and reports; order general stock items and other items as directed, provide their supervisor problem solving options when supplies or equipment supply chain challenges occur; receive, unload, and inspect shipments for damage and conformity to purchase order specifications and packing slips; contact vendors regarding shortages, damaged goods or other discrepancies; shelve and store items received in the appropriate section of the warehouse according to identifying information such as size, type, style or code; review on-line status reports and reconciles discrepancies; assist with the preparation of annual requirements contracts related to EMS and fire suppression warehouse operations, and administers these contracts once awarded; receive phone calls and provide information; respond to inquiries and ensure delivery issues are resolved; keep Fire Department personnel current on supplies and equipment delivery status; prepare and maintain a variety of appropriate records of all receiving and warehouse transactions; conduct periodic and annual physical inventories; maintain appropriate records of all receiving and EMS and fire suppression warehouse transactions; conduct periodic and annual inventories; maintain work-related records using a computer; maintain reports for the reconciliation of inventory; and prepare related status reports; provide written reports related to ordering, inventory, use, and costs; coordinate and perform physical inventories of supplies and medicine; coordinate payment of invoices for supplies, medicine and other expenditures; oversee daily mail pick-up and distribution for the Fire Department; oversee surplus Fire Department property storage and disposal; recommend and assist in the implementation of goals and objectives; establish schedules and methods for EMS and fire suppression supplies; implement policies and procedures; evaluate operations and activities of assigned responsibilities; recommend improvements and modifications; prepare various reports on operations and activities; participate in budget preparation and administration; prepare cost estimates for budget recommendations; submit justifications; monitor and control expenditures; build and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, other city employees and the public using principles of good customer service; perform related duties as assigned.
License or Certificate: Possession of a valid California driver’s license.
