JOB ANNOUNCEMENT FOR FIREFIGHTER
Burney Fire Protection District is requesting applicants for the position of Firefighter; this is a targeted recruitment for well-qualified, select candidates.
THE COMMUNITY
The unincorporated community of Burney is located just fifty miles northeast of Redding,
California on Highway 299 East. Burney is nestled at the base of Burney Mountain in the center of the picturesque Cascade Mountains. The community have a year-round population of approximately . During the summer months, the population increases to about 7,500 due to summer residents and visitors. Young families and retirees constitute a portion of the population.
Burney's services include banking, insurance, groceries, restaurants, auto repair, and other shopping. Burney is unincorporated; Shasta County provides law enforcement and maintains a community sheriffs sub-station. Housing is available in all price ranges and including sub- divisions as well as individual building sites for those who wish to build.
The area surrounding Burney offers a variety of activities, with fishing spots, campgrounds, and breathtaking scenery. McArthur-Burney Falls Memorial State Park is neither the highest nor the largest waterfall in the state, but many people consider it the most beautiful. Unlike other waterfalls in this area, Burney Falls continues to flow at the same rate all year long. Other attractions include
Crystal Lake Fish Hatchery, Subway Cave, majestic Mt. Shasta and Ski Park, Lassen National
Volcanic Park & Visitors Center, Fort Crook Museum, wilderness areas, fly-fishing, boating, water skiing, bait fishing, parasailing, camping, hiking, day trips, golfing, picnicking, motels, and Native
American gaming.

ABOUT THE DISTRICT
The Burney Fire Protection District is a Self-governed Special District established in 1939 under California law with its primary function to serve the public safety interests. The Burney
Fire District is in northern California in Shasta County. The District provides fire and EMS
(Ambulance) services to a 36 square mile area.. There is currently one staffed station and one reserve station. Daily staffing consists of career and paid-per-call personnel. In the last two years, Burney Fire District responded to just over 1,000 calls for service annually, of which about 73% were medical related.

THE POSITION
District personnel are responsible for carrying out the duties assigned by the Fire Chief, Duty
Officer or Supervisor. Personnel are required to work in strict compliance with all rules and regulations that govern the District. This position responds to such events as basic and advanced life support emergency medical aids; mass/multi casualty, and man-made/natural disasters as needed; performs structural firefighting, and rescue operations including but not limited to confined space, and wildland fires as a part of a team within the framework of the incident command system. Operates District vehicles, specialized equipment, and tools; assists in routine maintenance, cleaning, and inspection of vehicles, equipment, facilities, and tools; and may be responsible for project work.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
The individual in this position will work 72-hours per workweek on a schedule determined by the District. This is a full-time "at will" benefited position. The individual's primary duties will include responding to emergencies and non-emergency activities as directed by the Fire
Chief or his/her designee. These duties include but not limited to tasks associated with firefighting, medical emergencies (Ambulance), rescues including confined space, auto extrication, hazardous materials incidents, and out of district assignments. Duties include but not limited to maintenance of the station, apparatus, and equipment. The incumbent may be required to be on-call for emergencies and non-emergency events as determined by the Fire
Chief and his/her designee.
OTHER DUTIES BUT NOT LIMITED TO
The individual shall participate in the District's Fire Inspection and Prevention programs.
Assist with the District's Pre-Plan program, keeping comprehensive records and prepare reports regarding all fire inspections, as assigned. Gather and disseminate information regarding current up-to-date data on codes and ordinances pertaining to fire inspections and code enforcement. The incumbent may perform other duties including work in other functions and areas to meet the needs of the District.
RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT
Residency is a condition of employment for this position. The successful candidate will be required to live within the boundaries of the Burney Fire Protection District within six-months

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION
- Minimum age of 18
- Possession of high school diploma OR equivalent (provide documentation)
- Possession of a valid driver's license at time of hire (provide documentation)
- Possession of a valid American Heart Association Health Care Provider OR Red Cross
BLS/CPR for Healthcare Professionals Certification (provide documentation)
- California Firefighter I Certification, OR completion of a California State Fire Marshal accredited Fire Academy, OR two years of full-time paid experience as a Firefighter with a municipal department, OR five years of Paid Call or Volunteer fire experience

- A valid EMT/AEMT license and be able to obtain an S-SV accreditation by the time of hire OR a valid Paramedic license and be able to obtain an S-SV accreditation by the time of hire.
Must be current on the Firefighter Candidate Testing Center (FCTC) Statewide Eligibility List

Cal-JAC CPAT (Candidate Physical Ability Test) Card must be dated within the last 12 months.
A passing score on the FCTC Written Test dated within the last 12 months.

BENEFITS
Salary: $57,600 - $67,000 DOQ
Retirement- Burney Fire District participates and contributes to the California Public
Employees Retirement System (CALPERS). PEPRA Employees are required to pay the employee contribution.
Medical/Dental/Vision - Burney Fire District pays 100% of all health insurance premiums for each employee and their dependents.
