The Fish and Wildlife Management Foreman is responsible for habitat, wildlife populations and activities on all except major Wildlife Management Areas (WMA) or oversees a large technical operation within a Fish Hatchery. Under supervision of the area biologist, coordinates activities of technical staff and implements daily operations, management and maintenance of the Taylorsville Lake Wildlife Management Area, Rolling Fork WMA, JC Williams WMA, Knobs State Forest and WMA, and Marion County State Forest and WMA.

The Fish and Wildlife Management Foreman is responsible for habitat, wildlife populations and activities on all except major Wildlife Management Areas (WMA) or oversees a large technical operation within a Fish Hatchery. Under supervision of the area biologist, coordinates activities of technical staff and implements daily operations, management and maintenance of the Taylorsville Lake Wildlife Management Area, Rolling Fork WMA, JC Williams WMA, Knobs State Forest and WMA, and Marion County State Forest and WMA.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Coordinates activities of the technical staff and implements daily operations, management and maintenance of the assigned WMAs within the Bluegrass Region.
- Conduct habitat management practices, prescribed burns, strip mow, strip disk, no-till, and conventional planting per WMA annual work plan. Implement WMA activities and agreements.
- Mow lawn, maintain building, facilities, mark boundaries, operate and maintain farm machinery and other equipment in compliance with department policy and manufacturer specifications.
- Supervise and train seasonal technicians in operation, maintenance, habitat management, process invoices, prepare and monitor WMA budget, maintain inventory, and complete routine reporting.
- Supervise and monitor quota hunts, shooting events, facilities, other recreational use of assigned WMA.
- Performs employee evaluations and recommends disciplinary actions when warranted.
- Highly qualified individuals will possess strong knowledge and experience in agriculture and the operation, maintenance, and light repair of agricultural equipment.
- Crew leader/supervisory experience.
- Experience with managing wildlife habitat.
- A 37.5-hour work week (w/occasional overtime required)

Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION: Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree in a biological, natural, agricultural, or aquacultural sciences.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Must have one year of experience in wildlife and/or fisheries conservation or related field.
Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: A master's degree in a biological, natural, agricultural, or aquacultural science will substitute for the required experience.
Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: Experience in wildlife and/or fisheries conservation or related field will substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): Must possess a valid driver's license prior to appointment in this classification. Must be (and remain) eligible to hold a Commercial Driver's License when required by agency. Must maintain any required licensure (s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this classification. Employing agency is responsible for ensuring employee possesses and maintains required licensure(s), certification(s) or other credentials.
Working Conditions
Must be able to work outside in temperature extremes for long periods of time and traverse rough terrain. Must be able to swim.
Probationary Period
This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
