Fleet Mechanic II - Repair, service and perform major and minor repairs to the Authority’s

fleet of vehicles and equipment, including automobiles, heavy equipment, emergency

equipment, and other power-driven equipment. This is a full journey level class within the

Fleet Mechanic series. This class is distinguished from the Fleet Mechanic I by the

assignment of the full range of duties assigned and the ability to work in the absence of

supervision.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Inspects the Authority’s fleet and related equipment to identify and determine the

extent of necessary overhaul or repairs.

  • Performs general overhaul and repair work on gasoline and diesel-powered engines,

as found in automobiles, large trucks, heavy equipment and other mechanical

equipment at the Authority’s vehicle repair and maintenance facilities, satellite

locations and off-site locations.

  • Repairs cooling, fuel, electrical, hydraulic and exhaust systems, brakes and front

end, tunes engines using standard testing equipment and other mechanical parts.

  • Performs preventative maintenance work on the Authority’s fleet of vehicles.
  • Fabricates as accessories and tools as necessary.
  • Pick up and deliver vehicles and parts.
  • Cleans and maintains the fleet maintenance area, tools and equipment.
  • Assists the Equipment Manager in performing inventory, ordering and controlling

equipment, tools, supplies and materials for the vehicle repair shop and

maintenance facility.

  • Researches, compares, and locates parts, equipment and vehicles.
  • Performs recordkeeping on all maintenance and repair work performed.


  • Performs work safely in accordance with established safety procedures.
  • Performs related duties as required

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High School diploma or GED is required.
  • Three (3) years of general fleet maintenance and repair.
  • A valid U.S. Virgin Islands Driver’s License is required.
  • Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification preferred.
