Primary Purpose
Responsible for providing mechanical repairs and preventive maintenance tasks to ensure Grand Prairie ISD vehicles, including buses, are in optimum operating condition.
Qualifications
Education/Certification
High School diploma or equivalent.
Valid Texas driver’s license, and ability to obtain a class B CDL within three (3) months
TAPT Certification, completed or working towards
ASE Certification preferred or working towards
Technician Certification Preferred or working towards
Special Knowledge/Skills
Knowledge of automotive mechanics and maintenance
Ability to operate all District vehicles
Ability to communicate well and deal with all people in a courteous and positive manner.
Must be able to work unassisted without supervision
Knowledge of computer software; Dossier, Fuel Master, Microsoft Office and Outlook.
Ability to operate equipment and tools involved in vehicle repair
Ability to lift heavy equipment and vehicle parts
Ability to pass alcohol and drug test
Ability to complete required bus driver safety training
Acceptable driving record
Ability to operate a bus
Experience
Automotive A/C
Medium Duty Truck repair
Air Brakes
Knowledge of School Bus Special Equipment

Major Responsibilities and Duties
_____ 1. Perform repairs and preventive maintenance on all District vehicles in a timely and efficient manner under supervision of the Fleet Supervisor.
_____ 2. Analyze and make diagnoses regarding necessary repairs.
_____ 3. Analyze each job assignment and consult with Fleet Supervisor to ensure materials are available.
_____ 4. Repair engines (gas and diesel), brakes, clutches, transmissions, and rear ends as required.
_____ 5. Diagnose mechanical problems using test equipment.
_____ 6. Test-drive vehicles on public streets.
_____ 7. Perform a gas or diesel diagnosis, using electronic scan tool.
_____ 8. Follow all safety rules and procedures reporting any unsafe conditions to supervisor immediately.
_____ 9. Operate tools, equipment and machinery according to prescribed safety procedures.
_____ 10. Assist in maintaining accurate, updated records of time and materials required to perform repairs, service and preventative maintenance.
_____ 11. Operate buses and other vehicles as needed.
_____ 12. Respond to emergency road calls from drivers.
_____ 13. Follow all rules, regulations, and policies of Grand Prairie ISD and follow directives from superiors.

Equipment Used
Use vehicle repair tools and equipment (including power tools, hydraulic lifts and tire changers), electronic analysis equipment, electrical test equipment, brake lathe, welding equipment, and engine hoist; operates Grand
Prairie ISD vehicles.
Working Conditions
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Frequently required to bend, crawl, and reach to service vehicles; routinely lift and carry parts and equipment up to 50 pounds without assistance; manual dexterity to complete projects in a craftsman fashion. Work around moving objects or vehicles; fumes; solvents; grease and oil; may work under conditions of inclement weather.
Reading; ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written); ability to maintain emotional control under stress.
