About this role:

We are currently looking for a Fleet Technician who will diagnose, repair and maintain NOVEC's fleet and equipment according to established schedules and as necessary to ensure availability of fleet in meeting business requirements and providing customer service.


Overview of this role:

  • Diagnose, repair and maintain NOVEC's fleet of vehicles to include construction, aerial and pool vehicles at a professional level to maintain all specifications, regulations and standards set by manufacturers of said equipment.
  • Maintain garage work areas and storeroom in order to promote a safe work environment.
  • Coordinate parts deliveries, vehicle deliveries and equipment during both routine schedules and emergency or storm restoration activities.
  • Assist with review of policies and procedures in order to improve customer satisfaction and organizational effectiveness.
  • Collaborate with internal customers as needed in order to design, fabricate, weld and install necessary accessories on NOVEC's vehicles, such as ladder racks, wire racks, grab handles, safety equipment and other accessory options.
  • Collectively perform emergency repairs on weekends, holidays, nights and all other times outside of standard working hours that may arise during emergency or storm restoration activities.
  • Anticipate and meet rapidly changing vehicle platforms by staying abreast of new technology and maintaining the highest level of education available from a multitude of manufacturers.
  • Perform all position responsibilities in accordance with NOVEC policies and procedures and VOSHA safety regulations.


Education and Experience:

Steps I-IV: High school diploma, GED or recognized equivalent including education or training in automotive repair is required. Completion of a two year automotive training program from an accredited vocational or technical school is preferred. 1-2 years of automotive repair and maintenance experience in a customer-oriented environment is required.

Thereafter: High school diploma, GED or recognized equivalent including education or training in automotive repair is required. Completion of a two year automotive training program from an accredited vocational or technical school is preferred. Completion of a utility fleet repair and maintenance program is required. 2-3 years of experience in repair and maintenance of utility fleet vehicles and requirement is required.


Professional Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of generally accepted welding practices to repair and fabricate NOVEC equipment.
  • Must have the ability to use special tools and advanced test equipment in order to facilitate time saving, cost effective and safe repair of vehicles and equipment.
  • Ability to anticipate potential problems and apply the appropriate diagnosis in order to efficiently repair vehicles and/or equipment.
  • Assist with review of policies and procedures in order to improve customer satisfaction and organizational effectiveness.
  • Ability to eventually demonstrate an advanced working knowledge of each vehicle and system to maintain and repair fleet vehicles and equipment.
  • Adopt a strategy to enhance ones knowledge, by accepting an ongoing training plan through the use of web-based training along with after hours training in order to anticipate and meet rapidly changing vehicle and equipment platforms.


Other Requirements:

  • Must be able to pass a background check and post-offer physical as part of the pre-employment process.
  • Must possess or have the ability to obtain and maintain a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and comply with all applicable federal and Virginia motor carrier safety regulations.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a state vehicle inspector certification.
