The Mechanical Engineering program at Florida Institute of Technology (Florida Tech) invites applications for multiple tenure track faculty positions planned to commence in August 2023. Applicants from all areas of Mechanical Engineering will be considered, but preference will be given to those in the areas of (i) additive manufacturing, (ii) robotics/controls/dynamic systems, and (iii) thermal science.
Within additive manufacturing (AM), applications are preferred with an emphasis on aerospace, energy, and defense applications. Successful applicants should demonstrate a strong theoretical background and hands-on experience in developing novel AM processes, applying novel AM materials, and studying micro- and macro-structural behavior related to thermo-mechanical properties.
Within robotics/controls/dynamic systems, applications are preferred with an emphasis on industrial robots, multi-robot coordination localization and mapping, artificial intelligence robotic applications (navigation, path planning, machine learning), computer vision, and distributed sensor networks.
Within thermal science, applications are preferred with an emphasis on combustion mechanism and kinetics, augmented combustion modeling and control strategies, fuel efficiency, computational fluid dynamics, multi-scale thermal transport, and advanced applications in power generation and propulsion.
The Mechanical Engineering program at Florida Tech has a strong research record in the areas of design and structures, thermal-fluid sciences, control systems, and manufacturing. Successful candidates will join the team of internationally renowned experts in sustainable energy, next-generation robotics, metal 3D printing, design theory, and advanced heat transfer.
The positions are planned to commence in Fall 2023, or earlier if suitable candidates are found, and are intended primarily at the Assistant Professor level. However, exceptional candidates with established scholarly records may be considered for higher-level appointments. Qualified applicants are expected to have a Ph.
