Overview:

Position Objective:

The Purchasing and Storage Clerk is responsible for assisting the Food Service Department with the purchasing and receiving process and organizing all the departmental orders. This position stores products, marks and labels them appropriately in all store room areas including coolers, freezers, dry storage, and loading dock and maintains these areas clean, stocked and organized in a manner consistent with Mount Hermon Association, Inc.'s ("MHA") mission, vision and Standards of Conduct.

The Purchasing and Storage Clerk is a Ministerial Support position. Ministerial Support staff serve in operational and service support roles and are not required to personally affirm Mount Hermon Association, Inc.’s (“MHA”) Christian mission, vision and beliefs. However, it is expected that staff who fill these roles – no matter their personal beliefs - respect, work in harmony with, and not undermine MHA’s Christian mission, vision and beliefs. Additionally, they are required to abide by MHA’s culture code and standards of conduct.

All staff are expected to join gatherings, which includes prayer, worship, and Bible-centered teaching.

Key Job Accountabilities
:

  • Keeps monthly inventory reports for the storage rooms.
  • Processes all incoming ordering requisitions for upcoming events by referring to BEOs and communicating directly with Food Service department Managers and supervisors.
  • Communicate all outstanding purchasing issues to the department manager as needed.
  • Create efficient store room labeling systems that allow for logical and easy access to products.
  • Practice First in First Out on all requisitions.
  • Identify and share items that are near expiration for use.
  • Stock all food and beverage in appropriate areas and ensure that they are in stock when needed.
  • Keep the loading dock and purchasing areas organized, clean and safe.
  • Keep track of dumpster, cardboard and recycling.
  • Establish accurate pars on all products.
  • Work with Food Service department management on purchase orders for all food and beverage.
  • Participate in monthly inventory meetings and share constructive feedback at the end of each month.
  • Replace, report and return products that do not meet food safety standards or quality standards.
  • Assist with other food service department duties as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Part-time position; $17.00 - $21.00/hour

Qualifications:

Education/Certifications/Licenses:

  • High School diploma

Work Experience:

  • Does not require previous work experience.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with previous janitorial, or stocking, purchasing and/or inventory experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :
  • Ability to lift and carry items for most of the majority of the shift.
  • Understanding of proper equipment safety techniques.
  • Understanding of safe food handling.
  • Driving a plus*.
  • California Food Handlers.
  • Basic computer skills required.
  • Ability to work alone occasionally and be self-sufficient.

Physical Demands:

The physical environment requires the employee to work both inside and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Must be able to work inside freezing temperatures. Must be able to manipulate kitchen and cleaning machinery like dishwashers, and able to manipulate cleaning chemicals. Requires sitting, standing, squatting, stooping, twisting, ability to lift/carry 50 lbs. Requires the ability to see and hear, read and speak English.

Additional Requirements :
  • Must be 16 years of age or older.
    • In order to drive in the position, must have a clean driving record of at least three years, and agree to and comply with MHA’s employee driving guidelines for MHA-owned vehicles and use of personal vehicles for business purposes.
  • Adherence to the basic principles as expressed in MHA’s Mission, Vision and Standards of Conduct.
  • Ability to work early mornings, afternoons and evenings, weekends and most major holidays.
  • Adherence to company dress code and professional standards for personal grooming and appearance.
  • Satisfactory completion of background investigation, or valid work permit, as well as ability to provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
