With Consumer Direct Acceleration came a heightened focus on responsiveness to consumer’s local preferences through product creation and responsiveness through speed to market. The Express Lane team in APLA (Asia Pacific, Latin America) is focused on creating products that amplify brand concepts, extend in-line stories, and capture emerging local trends for APLA’s key cities of Tokyo, Seoul, and Mexico City. Leading with insights, this dynamic team has the exciting task of crafting product across key dimensions of consumers and expressions, ranging from great seasonal product to high heat footwear solutions.
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
The ideal candidate is a highly creative problem solver, who looks to build the best design and materials solutions that meet the needs and particular taste of the consumers in our APLA key cities! This person should have a curiosity and passion to seek understanding of the unique style needs of our distinct consumers in a fast-pace and ever-evolving environment. By driving a design expression that emotionally connects through the use of narrative and storytelling, they should be able to bring the brand of Nike to our consumers in a very personal and authentic way.
WHAT YOU WILL WORK ON
As our Materials Designer II, you'll leverage materials to deliver a premium, recognizable and consumer relevant brand point of view in the marketplace through strategic vision, design direction, storytelling and editing. You'll lead the development of the materials creative vision and strategies for category/consumer groups, maintaining hands-on involvement in Materials design and development, in support of creative direction, seasonal initiatives and go-to-market strategies. In addition, you'll provide strategies to leverage materials in support of C2C and Materials optimization.
If this is you, you will be working on a range of material design expressions, from crafting palettes and strategies for broad seasonal collections, to curating and elevating existing materials to build unique stories for our classics and iconic products with the creative use of post-process design techniques!
From concepting and ideating all the way to finalizing tech packs, from working with manufacturing partners to communicating directly with local consumers, the daily responsibilities of this role are wide ranging, challenging, and rewarding. The entrepreneurial and very collaborative nature of this role will also enable growth and experience with cross-functional design partners and different product types across Men’s and Women’s, Performance and Lifestyle. With that, there will also be opportunities to lead concepts holistically, including the ability to work on color design and other footwear design details.
WHO YOU WILL WORK WITH
The Materials Designer II will partner with the Nike Color Design, Material Design, Graphic Design, and Development teams, in bringing to life the seasonal design solutions through Footwear Materials design.
This role does not have direct reports and reports directly to the APLA FW and AP Design Director.

WHAT YOU BRING
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Design, Art, or related field or combination of relevant education, experience, and training
- Strong consumer connection with performance and lifestyle related products
- Minimum 2 years experience in Design-related roles, with preference for color, materials and trend
- Creative problem solver with proven ability to concept, iterate and collaborate with a multi-disciplinary design team
- Experience in branding with proven ability to incorporate marketing principles in design
- Passion for researching consumer and cultural insights
- Passion for Design, future thinking and creative problem solving
- Outstanding Presentation and Visual Communication skills; as well as Information Seeking ability
- Advanced business, strategic thinking and organizational skills
- Experience in participating in multiple projects with competing resources and deadlines
- Ability to build and edit files using Adobe programs including Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign
- Understanding of the Footwear Product Creation process is a plus
- Curiosity about sneaker culture is an asset
