General Maintenance Assistant

The Plant Services Department at Johnson University Florida is seeking a General Maintenance Assistant. The General Maintenance Assistant assists the Director of Plant Services in maintaining the physical plant of Johnson University Florida, which includes land, buildings, and related equipment owned by and located on the University’s campus, and in supervising Plant Services personnel. Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Performs minor repairs in these areas:
  • Electrical
  • Lighting
  • Carpentry
  • Performs minor repairs in these areas:
  • Plumbing
  • Appliances
  • Fencing
  • Roofing
  • Flooring
  • Electronic Card Lock System
  • Locks
  • Doors and Windows
  • Painting
  • Performs carpentry work required to remodel, construct, and add minor additions to buildings, and to repair buildings and furniture.
  • Operates hand and power tools to cut, shape and install various materials.
  • Performs finish carpentry work, such as installing trim molding, and building shelves, bookcases and cabinets.
  • Installs insulation, hangs Sheetrock or paneling, and mud or float walls and ceilings.
  • Repairs or replaces building components such as doors, door frames, locks and windows.
  • Performs minor repairs to roofs by replacing or installing roofing materials.
  • Installs floor coverings and countertops.
  • Performs preventative maintenance in HVAC units.

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Operates a light truck to transport tools, materials, and equipment to various work sites.
  • Performs other related duties as required, to fulfill the goals and objectives of the Plant Services Department.

Knowledge, Skills and Requirements:

  • Knowledge of all maintenance categories listed above.
  • Skill in the operation of hand and power tools.
  • Skill in the operation of an automatic transmission automobile.
  • Ability to accurately estimate time and material requirements for assigned projects.
  • Ability to complete work orders on projects completed.
  • Ability to perform manual and skilled labor involving bending, lifting and carrying materials.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with other employees.

Additional Requirement: Must possess a valid Florida Class D (Non-Commercial Vehicle) Driver’s License before employment and maintain licensure for the duration of employment in this position.
