EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Any combination equivalent to:

  • Graduation from high school.
  • Sufficient training and experience to demonstrate the knowledge and abilities listed including two years' general maintenance experience.

LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Valid California driver's license.
  • Acquisition of forklift certification within first five months of employment.
  • Must be, and remain, insurable under the District's vehicle driver's insurance policy at the standard rate.

KNOWLEDGE OF:

  • Methods, equipment and materials used in maintenance and repair work.
  • Basic shop math.
  • Appropriate safety precautions and procedures, relating to construction and repair work.
  • Basic record keeping techniques.

ABILITY TO:

  • Read plans, drawings and specifications relating to the repair and remodeling of District facilities.
  • Perform semi-skilled to skilled maintenance work independently as instructed or assist skilled maintenance trades personnel.
  • Operate a variety of maintenance equipment and machines including hand and power tools, such as saws, drills, sanders, etc.
  • Understand and follow oral and written directions.
  • Communicate effectively with others.
  • Maintain routine records.
  • Demonstrate attendance sufficient to complete the duties of the position as required.
  • Observe legal and defensive driving practices.
  • Work cooperatively with others.
  • Demonstrate mental acuity sufficient to perform the essential functions of the position.
  • Work within stressful situations.
  • Be motivated to produce high quality work product.

FUNCTION & DUTIES

BASIC FUNCTION:

Under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor, perform a variety of semi-skilled to skilled repair and remodel work on facilities, structures and grounds.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:

  • Perform a variety of maintenance and repair work independently or with assistance as instructed or assist skilled trade personnel in the maintenance and modification of school buildings, facilities and grounds. E
  • Install and repair carpets, drapes, plaster, drywall, floor tile, ceiling tile, vents, screens, partitions, windows and doors. E
  • Install and repair sun shades, fencing, signs and minor block work. E
  • Repair, assemble and install furniture, shelving, counters, bulletin boards, cabinets and white boards. Move furniture and set-up for special events. E
  • Perform concrete and asphalt work. Install forms, mix, pour and finish concrete. Patch and repair concrete walks and structures, potholes, cracks and cuts in asphalt surfaces. E
  • Perform minor electrical repair and maintenance work such as repairing or replacing plugs, outlets, elements, light bulbs, light switches, diffusers and ballasts. E
  • Perform minor structural repairs to roofs, walls, partitions, ceilings and other building elements. E
  • Perform semi-skilled plumbing work such as replacing broken pipe, cutting and threading pipe, cleaning stopped drains and sewers, and replacing and maintaining washers, valves, fittings and other components. E
  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs to doors, doorknobs, locks, hinges, closures, strike plates and panic bars. E
  • Maintain records of maintenance activities, such as work orders, invoices and material lists. E

  • Operate and maintain a variety of equipment and machines such as trucks, box trucks, lift gate trucks, forklifts, scissor lifts, boom lifts, gradall lifts, saws, drills, planers, sanders, etc. E
  • Operate District vehicle to conduct work; clean and service assigned vehicle. E
  • Prepare surfaces for painting; do minor painting as necessary.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

Anticipated Written Exam: Week of October 3, 2022

Anticipated Oral/Performance Exam: Week of October 10, 2022

WORKING CONDITIONS

ENVIRONMENT:

Indoor and outdoor work environment; subject to noise from equipment operation, regular exposure to fumes, dust, dirt, oil/grease; subject to driving a vehicle to conduct work.

PHYSICAL ABILITIES:

Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a variety of specialized equipment and tools; seeing to observe needed and completed repairs; climbing ladders and working from heights; reaching overhead and horizontally; standing for extended periods of time; walking over rough or uneven surfaces; lifting heavy objects weighing up to 75 pounds; bending at the waist; and kneeling or crouching.

HAZARDS:

Vapors from paints and solvents, working in a cramped or restrictive work chamber, working with power saws and flying debris, working at heights on ladders or scaffolding, and working with electrical power supply.
