Job description
POSITION: GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION SYSTEMS (GIS) TECHNICIAN
FUNCTION:
Primary function is to ensure high quality data entry of data into a GIS database. Data sources will range from engineering plans, in both paper and digital formats, to field collected GPS datasets. A high attention to detail and quality control of the data entry is a requirement.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintain the collection, input, and mapping of GIS data.
- Create and maintain ArcGIS Online web maps.
- Create web applications using Web AppBuilder for ArcGIS.
- Perform data collection using GPS equipment.
- Process collected field data into a GIS database using ESRI ArcGIS software.
- Report findings and document field observations related to the installed infrastructure.
- Maintain paper and computer files, maps, and databases related to the project GIS.
- Completes a variety of computations including field measurements, areas, volumes, and other quantity measurements.
- Perform related duties as required.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS AND SKILLS:
- Graduation from high school and two (2) years technical schooling with classes in GIS (or an equivalent amount of education and experience) is required. Education beyond high school may be substituted at a rate of two (2) years experience for one (1) year of education.
- Possess the ability to make moderately complex computations, maintain databases, read and interpret engineering plans, and maintain effective working relationships with other employees.
- Computer–aided drafting (CAD) knowledge and ability is helpful but not required.
- Must possess a Valid Iowa Driver’s License and meet the requirements of Precision
Underground Utilities vehicle policy.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Position requires lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds occasionally.
- Able to effectively communicate orally (in person and over the telephone) and in writing
(using electronic devices and handwritten) in English with other employees.
- Able to maneuver on uneven surfaces for several miles in various types of weather.
- Position requires some outdoor work where heat, cold, precipitation, and other results of weather and nature may be encountered.
- Position requires travel around the State of Iowa in a company vehicle or compensation.

Pay: $56,000.00 - $62,000.00 per year
