POSITION DESCRIPTION

POSITION TITLE: District Coordinator of Gifted and Talented Program

REPORTS TO: Director of Special Services

POSITION SUMMARY: The GT Coordinator is responsible for maintaining the goals of the current Administrative Unit Plan as agreed upon by the CDE as well as the GT Unified Improvement Plan addendum. The coordinator, in conjunction with parents and teachers, is responsible for the identification and assessment of students with advanced ability for gifted services as we as maintaining annual records of gifted students Advanced Learning Plans.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES

• Compile and distribute Gifted and Talented Parent Information Packet, at time of identification. Separate letter for those who do not qualify. Both in home language.
• Ensure that GT Handbook is updated and approved by the Board of Education.
• Distribute parent survey and hold parent meeting once a semester.
• Notify local media about GT events, including district newsletter, newspaper and radio.
• Provide teachers with a snapshot of accommodations for GT students.
• Annual presentation and GT update of Board of Education.
• Distribute information about GT endorsement from area colleges/universities to teachers.
• Identify and collaborate monthly with a GT committee composing of one teacher from each school.
• Participate in PLC’s w/each building quarterly.
• Update and maintain calendar on district GT website. Provide quarterly newsletters.
• Attend monthly administration meetings and present upcoming GT events and report of prior events.
• Coordinate universal screening at 2nd and 6th
• Update and maintain procedures for Watch and Enrich procedures.
• Meet annually with art, drama, and music teachers to educate and revise procedures to identify students for GT.
• Provide teachers with educational materials on characteristics and traits for identifying student with gifts and talents, including low-income and minorities.
• Maintain referrals for GT, including parental materials.
• Provide teachers with educational materials on differentiation on students with GT.
• Educate and support the creation, revision, access and use of the ALP module in Infinite Campus.
• Present school district procedures, including ALP module, to new teachers at beginning of year induction; and differentiation at following induction training.
• Organize and execute Kids College for summer programming.
• Provide enrichment opportunities for GT students: National History Day, Destination imagination, Creativity Quest, Spelling Bee, Brain Bowl, etc.
• Meet with students to set ALP and revise goals, including standardized assessment growth.
• Create, revise and implement Unified Improvement plan, working with all schools and administration in district.
• Maintain GT Certification through the Colorado Department of Education.
• Attend state and regional director’s meetings, provided by CDE.
• Attend State and National conventions in the area of GT as much as possible.
• Create, maintain and evaluate yearly budget, working with the financial department at the school district.
• Submit requisitions through the special services administrative assistant.
• Manage GT grants.
• Provide professional development opportunities to staff and parents.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

Coordinator will hold an office in the District Support Center. However, the coordinator will need to be flexible and visit various schools in order to provide required services and perform responsibilities.

LENGTH OF EMPLOYMENT: 185 days per year with extra days.
