GIS Technician

MJ is seeking an experienced GIS technician to join our geospatial group in Clifton Park, NY. The geospatial group specializes in all aspects of mapping civil infrastructure for municipal and private clients; particularly utilizing LiDAR datasets collected by MJ’s survey group. The prospective candidate will complete both independent and collaborative projects and maintain web maps and tooling that support the needs of MJ’s engineering groups.

Responsibilities

- Complete GIS and LiDAR mapping projects focused on civil infrastructure and utility networks that produce PDF map series, geodatabase, web map, or CAD deliverables depending on project requirements. Complete small projects independently and work collaboratively / oversee junior technicians on large projects.

- Create web maps and apps using ArcGIS Online and Survey123 for data collection and coordination. Publish and utilize web services shared between desktop and mobile users.

- Train in-house field staff on using Esri mobile apps like ArcGIS Field Maps to access the web maps you create. Monitor data collection progress and backups.

- Author geodatabase schemas and data dictionaries that meet project requirements. Accurately follow existing geodatabase schemas when they have been provided.

- Setup and maintain complex geodatabases for utility networks that utilize editor tracking, document attachments, attribute domains, and relates.

- Read and understand survey maps and engineering plans.

- Develop and implement Python scripts to automate repetitive tasks and workflows.

- Learn the fundamentals of LiDAR extraction and mapping if not already experienced with them.

Qualifications

The candidate should meet the following education and work experience requirements:

- A bachelor’s or master’s degree in Geography or related field with a concentration in GIS

- A minimum 3 year’s professional work experience in a GIS Technician or GIS Analyst role

- Must be a US Citizen or be able to work without employer sponsorship

The candidate should possess the following technical knowledge and skills:

- Experience with Esri products including ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, Survey123, and Field Maps

- Experience with managing an ArcGIS Online organization and content

- Experience with Python scripting using arcpy

- Experience working in or with civil or utility engineering groups

The candidate should be::

- Organized and detail-oriented

- Able to learn new topics independently and complete tasks in a timely manner

- An effective troubleshooter and analytical problem solver

- An excellent communicator

The preferred candidate may have the following:

- GISP certification

- GIS web development experience

- LiDAR or 3D modeling experience

- AutoCAD or MicroStation experience

Pay is based on applicant’s ability and will be rated accordingly. Pay: $65,000.00 - $87,000.00 per year
