These remote roadside sites ensure the ability to bypass weigh stations for our transportation customers who utilize our Bypass systems. In order to maintain safety and contractual obligations to our customers, client, and state partners, our customers data is periodically credentialed with state and 3rd party records to ensure they have the most updated credentials to participate in our Bypassing program. Position Summary:
PrePass LLC is an intelligent transportation system and service provider. Site Systems are the systems we design, implement, and support involving both hardware and software as a service. Reporting to the Vice President of Engineering, this position will be titled as Intelligent Transportation Systems & Hardware Integration Engineer for Site Systems. This role will be responsible for the overall system design, integrity, and advancement of our core customer platforms. In this position you will be working with common ITS technologies such as Automated Vehicle Identification (AVI), Weigh-in-Motion (WIM) scales, imaging (e.g., OCR), RFID, Tire Anomaly detection systems, dimensioning systems, basic networking, software, firmware, and other hardware. The successful individual will own the identification and qualification of new hardware components for the system and work with the necessary software engineering, infrastructure, and project engineering teams to ensure the system operates as intended. It is of utmost importance is having the ability to troubleshoot, analyze system performance issues, manage component obsolescence, and execute the necessary hardware and systems R&D as defined on the product roadmap.
The successful candidate will exhibit a meticulous and analytical approach to their work and have a well-rounded understanding of hardware, software, firmware, and networking to view the system holistically. Key attributes for this job are initiative, and affinity for new technology, problem solving, comfort with ambiguity, a strong desire to drive for results, capable of operating cross-functionally and leadership by influence.
This position is a Phoenix-based hybrid role that works a combination of the time at at our corporate office in Phoenix, Arizona where our engineering lab is based, and remote.
What We Want You to Do
- Identifying, testing, and qualifying hardware components such as ITS sensors, cameras, ground sensors, antennas, RFID readers, computer & networking components for use in our systems.
- Determine End Of Life (EOL) of hardware components and proactively identify suitable replacements.
- Identify firmware/software updates for the production hardware and qualify them to keep the hardware asset up-to-date.
- Analyzing systems data to make changes to the hardware configuration.
- Completing functionality and performance tests on the final product.
- Integrating hardware and computer-related products such as modems and smart devices.
- Creating specifications and documents for components and completed site systems.
- Ensure implementation of the latest design practices, methods, and procedures.
- Manage engineering lab operations, incoming work, and new processes.
- Oversee test engineering on new process creation and strategies.
- Consult with vendors and suppliers to ensure product and project compliance.
- Provide technical leadership for system design, integration, and function.
- Define test methodology and conduct tests to ensure/validate product performance, quality, and reliability.
- Develop validation procedures and write software integration requirements.
- Identify and validate product risks and work with team to mitigate them.
- Collaborate with other maintenance, operations and engineering teams as required.
- Participate in failure root cause analysis and implement corrective actions.
- Present and participate in critical design reviews and risk assessments.
Who You Are
- Bachelor's or Graduate degree in engineering or computer science.
- Minimum of 2 year's experience in a similar role.
- Knowledge of computer hardware, software, networking, and electrical systems.
- A technology enthusiast and desire to try new things.
- Self-starter, takes initiative and gets things done with minimal oversight.
- Strategic thinker and problem solver that challenges the norm to make things better.
- Comfortable with ambiguity and capable of finding a path forward.
- Ability to travel up to 20% of the time.
- Analytical thinking with good problem-solving abilities.
It Would Be Great If You Also Have
- Professional Engineer (PE) certification preferred, but not required.
- Experience with Intelligent Transportation Systems and technology is helpful, but not required, e.g., Automated Vehicle Identification (AVI), Weigh-in-Motion (WIM) scales, imaging (e.g., OCR), RFID, basic networking, software, firmware, and other hardware.
- Experience with C, PCB design, CAD software, FPGA, MATLAB, and QUANTUM programming language software and systems are helpful, but not required.
- Experience with Linux/Android, IOS, Logic Analyzer, Baseband, Python, and Verilog software and systems are helpful, but not required.
Your Experience / Background
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or similar field.
- 3+ years of relevant experience.
- Experience deploying, managing, and troubleshooting network infrastructures.
- Understanding of key network monitoring protocols.
- Excellent troubleshooting skills.
