Head Lifeguard is responsible for ensuring effective performance of lifeguard functions. Ensure the safety of the ywca princeton’s facility patrons and serve as a swim instructor by planning, coordinating and teaching learn-to-swim and water safety courses. Assist in training and scheduling. Ensure all certifications are current. Ensure all lifeguards are fully competent in performing water rescue procedures. Maintain positive working relationships with all constituents, staff and public. Poses appropriate knowledge and experience to achieve the goals of the organization and its mission.
Minimum Qualifications:
1. Current certification in the following:
a. American Red Cross Lifeguard Training/First Aid/CPR for the
Professional Rescurer
b. American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor
c. Other certifications required by local or state laws
d. Pre-employment testing of lifeguarding skills and knowledge
Knowledge and Skills:
1. Thorough knowledge and application of lifeguarding skills
2. Thorough knowledge and application of WSI skills and level requirements
3. High School Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree
4. Minimum 3 years of experience in related field
5. An understanding of facility characteristics, rules, policies and procedures

Responsibilities:
1. Recognize and respond effectively in emergencies
2. Enforce all aquatic facility policies, rules and regulations
3. Inspect the facility on a daily schedule and report any unsafe conditions or equipment to the supervisor
4. Complete records and reports
5. Participate in regular in-service training sessions
6. Exercise regularly to maintain fitness level (strength and endurance)
7. Complete additional duties as assigned by supervisor
8. Be familiar with American Red Cross Learn-to-Swim levels and other Red Cross water safety courses and know how to use course materials effectively
9. Adapt your teaching approaches to the age, experience and ability of participants so they can meet course objectives
10. Provide for the health and safety of participants, including ensuring that all teaching and practice areas are free of hazards, and that materials and equipment are safe
11. Cover all material required in a level
12. Communicate regularly with participants and their parents, as appropriate, to ensure they are aware of progress
13. Recognize and respond effectively in emergencies in according with facility emergency action plans
14. Enforce all aquatic facility policies, rules and regulations
15. Complete records and reports
16. Participate in regular in-service training sessions
17. Complete additional duties as assigned by supervisor
18. Assess participant swimming skills for appropriate level placement
19. Complete Incident Reports and submit to Director of Aquatics within 24 hours of an incident
20. Orient new lifeguards to job duties and responsibilities
21. Ensure all lifeguards are current on their training and certifications
22. Schedule, coordinate and conduct in-service trainings
23. Assist in scheduling of lifeguards to ensure adequate coverage of the pool area
24. Assist in maintenance and upkeep of facility
25. Complete and submit paperwork accurately and on time (i.e. course record sheets, progress reports, attendance, lesson plans)
26. Provide customer service by providing information to customers

Address participants concerns, problems and other issues as they ariseThe Plainsboro Aquatic supervisor will be responsible for the overseeing of daily operations at the West Windsor Plainsboro High School Pool North. Responsibilities include, but not limited to promoting the safety, daily scheduling of guards during the established operating hours, developing aquatic program to meet the needs of the community as well as keeping all staff current in their certifications. Work is involves personal contacts with the public in an indoor facility. Work schedule for January 2023 is Monday- Friday from 6-10pm. Must be able to provide COVID-19 vaccination & booster documentation (if needed).
The Supervisor must be of 18 years or older with at least 2-3 years’ experience in a supervisorial role. They must have a current Lifeguard certification, including First Aid, CPR/AED for Adults & Peds (infant & child).
The aquatic supervisor oversees and participates in the daily scheduling for guards (and instructors when classes begin) including supervision of lifeguards and Instructors. The aquatic supervisor will be responsible for the professional appearance of the pool & locker room areas, reporting any maintenance concerns. Monitors attendance of participants in classes & lap swim; conducts and analyzes water tests and readings and prepare & implement weekly staff scheduling and learn to swim lessons as well any other responsibilities designated by YWCA Chief Operating Officer.
- Participates in and teaches aquatic and safety certification training sessions,
- Monitors and maintains inventories of pool equipment and supplies.
- Promotes existing and develops new programs and/or policies.
- Ensures that all appropriate water health and safety standards are maintained.
- Stand in for instructor or guards when sub is not available
- Knowledgeable in American Red Cross Learn to Swim Levels
Education and Training Requirements
At least three years work experience in aquatics. Hold a current Lifeguard &First Aid, CPR/AED certification. (A current Certified Pool Operator (CPO)).
Knowledge and Skills Requirements
A professional attitude, in good physical condition to complete needed aquatic task, and has good interpersonal and teamwork skills. Should possess leadership abilities, analytical skills, initiative, motivation, and good communication skills.
- Knowledge of supplies, equipment, and/or services ordering and inventory control.
- Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports.
- Ability to make administrative/procedural decisions and judgments.

Pay: $13.00 - $24.64 per hour
