Salary InformationTypical starting wage range is $25.50/HR to $31.35/HR, dependent on qualifications or experience.
Full wage range is $25.50/HR at Step 1 to $38.67/HR at Step 20. Job Duties
The Health Educator"s primary role is to assess, plan, implement and evaluate health education and health promotion programs including assembling, developing, leading, and serving on coalitions and work groups focused on advancing public health in the community. Conduct studies to design programs and curricula. Participate in local community and state health committees and organizations. Provide consultation and assistance for the public and private sectors including wellness programs, health fairs, health policy changes, resources, grants, and other topics. Implement evidence-based policies, systems, and environmental change. Facilitate community coalition development. Advocate public health policies that can improve the wellness of the community. Search, develop, write & submit grant applications. Ensure project compliance with grant requirements. Maintain expenditure requirements per project grants. Liaison with academic program coordinators for students. Develop and/or coordinate training plans. Complete Health Department paperwork required for students to work/volunteer at the Health Department. Establish and/or maintain academic contracts or memoranda of understanding with academic institutions. Maintain database of staff training related to required onboarding trainings. Schedule and track annual HIPAA, Bloodborne Pathogen and other trainings as directed. Track staff CPR training. Oversee the Healthy Labs program. Maintain inventory of lab supplies. Coordinate with Clinic Biller on billing of labs. Develop and maintain all policies and procedures related to Healthy Labs Program operation. Draw requested labs and process for shipping to vendor lab. Update clients on critical lab results in accordance with established policies and procedures. Must complete the National Incident Management System training. Maintain certification in CPR and yearly Bloodborne pathogen training. Report for work during public health emergencies as needed. May require weekend and/or evening work. Perform other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications
Must meet licensing requirements by the Kansas State Board of Nursing for Registered Nurses and hold a current licensure for the State of Kansas.
Two (2) years" experience in nursing preferred.
Must have good communication skills to work with Staff and public in a congenial manner.
Must have excellent writing skills. Experience in journalism and working with the news media and social media is helpful but not required.
Must have basic knowledge of Excel, Word, and other PC software.
A proven ability to plan and organize work.
Must be flexible and be able to adapt to different tasks.
Must have a valid Driver's License and must provide own transportation
Physical Requirements
Determined Work Level: Level 3 - Medium Work Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or
up to 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force
constantly. Ability to communicate by means of the spoken word. Ability to hear. Must have fine and
gross motor ability. Must be able to operate computer, telephone and automobile. Possible exposure to
infectious pathogens, blood, body fluids and hazardous waste. May be exposed to a variety of work
environments including outside of Health Department buildings in all weather conditions Veteran's Preference
