Job Description

  • Create and stimulate public health awareness.
  • Coordinates health education activities of various community organizations.
  • Identify, develops, plans, and evaluates health education programs to address community health needs as per Title 8, Chapter 52 Public Health Practice
  • Standards of Performance for Local Boards of Health in New Jersey, including other preventive health activities.
  • Works with and involves local community leaders in planning, implementation, and maintenance of health education services and programs. Collaborates with other agencies and consults with subject matter specialist in the planning, implementation, and maintenance process.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those interested in or involved in the work of the program.
  • Prepares press releases and written materials regarding the programs and functions of local clinics and the health department.
  • Prepares reports and correspondence.
  • Maintains records and files.
  • Ability to provide guidance and advice on health education programs and issues.
  • Ability to manage health education programs and issues.
  • Ability to gather, analyze, and interpret health data.
  • Ability to evaluate health education programs.
  • Flexibility in schedule is required; Occasional clinics, health fairs, evenings and weekend hours are required.
  • Flexibility in tasks and activities.
  • Other related duties as required by the department.

Requirements:

Education: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Health Education, Public Health, Community Health Education, Nursing or a related Health Education field. Must possess a certification as a Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES)

Experience: Two (2) years of experience assessing community health education needs and, in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of diversified health education programs in a local health department or state or local health agency.

Note: A Master's degree in one of the areas listed above may be substituted for one (1) year of the required experience.

License: Valid New Jersey Driver's License required for the duties of the position.
