Job Description Summary
The EHS Specialist for the GE Research Center in Niskayuna, NY is responsible for designated tasks and specific duties within the EHS department independently and as assigned to help assure compliance for GE Research operations. In this role, the EHS Specialist will utilize experience or expertise to solve problems, develop and execute EHS objectives and effect short-term and long-term business goals.Job Description
Essential Responsibilities
- Anticipate, recognize, evaluate, and control workplace safety and health hazards
- Works cross-functionally to identify and address safety and health issues related to site operations
- Conducts EHS focused inspections and audits to ensure regulatory compliance
- Performs site training and manages EHS records
- Participates in safety risk assessments to help identify EHS hazards and implement controls to facilitate an injury and incident free work environment
- Conduct learning teams in response to safety events and conduct/validate incident investigations to determine root cause and proactive solutions to prevent event recurrence
- Drive closure of corrective actions based on root-cause investigations
- Manage EHS prequalification of contractors for onsite work activities
- Coordinate with consultants and contractors on EHS-related items
- Completes periodic safety inspections and compliance audits.
- Develops and maintains EHS programs and procedures to ensure compliance with applicable regulations
- Tracks and compiles site EHS key performance indicators to support site initiatives and routine communications
- Provides input to Site Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) team
- Develops and maintains general knowledge of applicable regulatory requirements
- Performs other tasks as needed and requested
Qualifications/Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Health Science, or other related discipline from an accredited university or college; or professional EHS certification
- 1-5 years EHS experience
- Interest or experience addressing EHS risks associated with Ergonomics, Electrical Safety, Control of Hazardous Energy programs, Confined Space Entry, Work at Heights, Safety Risk Assessments and Safe Operating Procedures, Management of Change, Industrial Hygiene, Legionella Control, Asbestos, Environmental programs (air, stormwater, wastewater, waste), Training, Emergency Preparedness and Fire Protection, or Chemical Management
- Must be 18 years or older.
- Must be willing to work out of an office located in Niskayuna, NY
