Health Workforce Development Grant– Program Coordinator
Reports to: The Managing Director.
Classification: Full-time, salaried employment.
Work Schedule: Full-Time, evenings and weekends as needed.
Salary and Benefits: $60,000, annual.
*This is a grant-funded position and is renewable dependent on outcomes and future funding.
Position Summary:
The Eugene/Springfield NAACP seeks a motivated individual with relevant experience in Project Management and Community Collaboration, to serve as the full-time Program Coordinator for the “Health Care Career Boost” program, a new grant-funded WorkForce Development Program, funded by the State of Oregon Higher Education Coordinator Council (HECC). During through the grant period, June 30, 2023, goals of the Health Care Career Boost program are to plan a WorkForce Development Program for BIPOC individuals in Lane County that will:
Recruit and mentor middle school and high school students of color to participate in and complete a high school Health Sciences Career and Technical Education (CTE) Program of Study and complete a health care career pathway at Lane Community College; and
Recruit and mentor people of color in entry-level health care and behavioral health positions to earn academic credit or training certification to advance in their careers.
Responsibilities:
The Program Coordinator will collaborate with the NAACP Health Committee and the Managing Director, to implement the objectives described in the planning grant:
1. Form a Healthcare Career Boost Advisory Team. Assist with the recruitment of approximately 15 people for a cross-sector Advisory Team, which will assist and advise on program design and implementation; develop Memoranda of Understanding (MOU) or similar agreements with organizations; providing a staff member to the Advisory Team; plan and organize Advisory Team meetings; and communicate regularly with Advisory Team members.
2. Solicit input from stakeholders. Work with the Advisory Team to determine best methods for gathering input from Boost potential program participants -- middle and high schools and people in entry-level health care and behavioral health positions -- about the types of support they need for considering a health care or behavioral health career,and for career advancement, as well as barriers or challenges.
3. Plan and pilot test an NAACP Boost Mentorship Program. Work with Advisory Team members and with input collected from stakeholders/potential program participants to plan the goals and methods for the NAACP Boost Mentorship Program. The Mentorship Program will be managed by the NAACP and will match health care and behavioral health professionals with Boost program participants.
4. Collaborate with Lane Education Service District’s CTE program to recruit students of color into the Health Sciences CTE Program of Study. Work with the Advisory Team and CTE program staff to develop recruitment materials and plan presentations at the middle high and high schools to talk about the Health Sciences CTE program and encourage students to enter the program. Collaborate with Lane ESD CTE staff to plan a Boost “MedSplash!” health care and behavioral health career immersion event held on the LCC campus, specifically for students of color.
5. Develop partnerships with local health care and behavioral health industry employers. In close coordination with Lane Workforce Partnership, the designated local Workforce Investment Board for Lane County, and with Advisory Team members, work with local health care and behavioral health employers to develop paid internships, job training, clinical supervision hours required for licensures, and career pathway opportunities for participants in the Health Care Career Boost program. Begin to identify training needs for the industry partners, which might include cultural responsiveness; implicit, explicit, and systemic racism; and developing a trauma-informed organizational culture, so that people of color hired are supported and sustained within an inclusive and respectful workplace culture.

Communicating and reporting The Program Coordinator will communicate regularly with members of the Advisory Team, the NAACP Health Committee, and the NAACP’s Managing Director to report on progress and outcomes towards meeting the grant objectives.
Budgeting: The Program Coordinator will manage the budget expenditures and reporting, and will provide complete and timely reports to the NAACP’S Managing Director, Executive Committee, the HECC as required, and to the NAACP Health Committee.
