The Rappahannock Area Health District (RAHD) is one of 35 Health Districts in Virginia. As part of the Virginia Department of Health (VDH), RAHD serves the residents, businesses, and visitors of Caroline, King George, Spotsylvania, and Stafford Counties, and the City of Fredericksburg. This posting is for two (2) full time positions. The incumbent will be based out of either Spotsylvania or Stafford Health Department. This position will be required to travel to all local health departments to include Fredericksburg City Health Department, Stafford Health Department, Spotsylvania Health Department, King George Health Department and Caroline Health Department as needed.
This position will perform clinical support services to patients in clinics, homes, and schools, specifically for the Rappahannock Area Health District. The Health Care Technician Senior’s (HCT) core responsibilities will include following a direct protocol, policy or procedure, providing technical support to professional medical and nursing staff. Duties consist of the following routine clinical tasks: collection of laboratory specimens, performing venipuncture and capillary sticks to all clients across the lifespan, and performing clinical laboratory tests to include hemoglobin, hematocrit, glucose, urine pregnancy, fecal occult blood, sedimentation rate and urine dipsticks. Collect sputum samples. Assesses a client for changes in condition based on an established protocol approved by VDH. Assist clinicians with reproductive health exams and physicals. Sterilizes instruments; inventories and orders supplies; maintains logs, files, and records; collects clinical data; compiles statistics. Works under the supervision of a licensed provider. The position will actively participate in emergency response (as needed). A valid State Driver’s License is required to operate a state vehicle, or if operating a personal vehicle, while conducting business on behalf of VDH.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Candidates must have a High school diploma or GED equivalent.


  • Candidates must have experience working in a clinical setting.

  • Candidates must have Current CPR certification.

  • Candidates must have Phlebotomy certification.

  • Candidates must have working knowledge of the practices, procedures, and techniques of venipuncture and laboratory services.
