POSITION PURPOSE:
Under the supervision of the Operations Director, the Healthy Living Director is responsible for the development, organization, implementation and evaluation of health and wellness programs, ensuring that all operations in the Healthy Living department run smoothly. Additionally, this position is responsible for creating new and innovative programs that meet the needs of the community. The Healthy Living Director is responsible for integrating YMCA USA wellness best practices in applicable programs and serving on relevant Association committees to enhance leadership skills and wellness programs.

ESSENTIAL STRATEGIC FUNCTIONS
- Directs all operations of the Healthy Living Department and its programs. These may include: facility and staff management, daily operations, group exercise scheduling, member challenge programs, collaborations with other agencies, health education and screenings.
- Develops, administers, achieves and evaluates the annual Healthy Living Department Operating Objectives.
- Develops, administers, executes and expands Healthy Living department annual budget.
- Recruits, employs, develops, supervises, evaluates and terminates (when needed) staff and volunteers while being fiscally responsible and within budget limitations.
- Assures that the Healthy Living Programs have well-planned member and volunteer recruitment and retention plans.
- ESSENTIAL TACTICAL FUNCTIONS
- Serves as member of the Healthy Living Cabinet providing input for the administration, promotion and operation of the YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh branch.
- Serves as member of the global Member Service Team providing input for the administration, promotion and operation as it relates to the Member Experience and overall Member Engagement.
- Monitors the achievement of these objectives through measurable outcomes, taking appropriate action to see they are met.
- Evaluates current programs and class participation to expand or discontinue classes based on customer satisfaction and member retention.
- Demonstrates the "Character Counts" values of caring, respect, honesty and responsibility in all your dealings with members, guests, volunteers and fellow staff.
- Participates in training and abide by the policies of the YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh.
- Assists in the maintenance of a clean and safe facility.
- Provides a cohesive approach to customer service and training that directly impacts the end user’s commitment and personal growth.
- Builds a culture of service delivery that is reflective of the Y mission and responsive to member issues and needs.
- Supports branch fundraising initiatives by actively contributing to, educating on, and raising projected goal for the annual Building Bridges Campaign.
- Assists in forming community partnerships to expand Y Without Walls concept.
- Local travel required and occasional long-distance travel for training and special events.
- Notifies field service technician of fitness equipment needs.
- Maintains an accurate system of records and reports.
- Wears Y uniform or nametag and appropriate attire.
- Greets members by name, introduces self to others and encourages socialization among members. JOB
SPECFICATIONS
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills

- Excellent fiscal management with strong operational performance history
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Google and Social Media
- Hours vary depending on need, including weekends and evenings.
QUALIFICATIONS
- This position prefers an undergraduate degree, preferably in Recreation, Physical Education, Exercise Physiology, Exercise Science, Sports Management, Kinesiology, Health or related field.
- Two to four years of experience in the area of Health and Wellness programming management is preferred.
- The incumbent is required to maintain current CPR, First Aid, and AED.
- Must have or obtain YMCA Team Leader Certification within 3 years.
- Must have or obtain YMCA Healthy Lifestyle Principles within 6 months.
- Must complete the on-line YMCA New Employee Orientation available on the YMCA Exchange.
- YMCA of USA Foundations of Group Exercise or Foundations of Strength and Conditioning or a nationally recognized fitness or personal training certification preferred.
- Candidates must have final Criminal Clearance certificates prior to starting employment. This includes PA Criminal Certificate, NSOR Verification, PA FBI - Use Code: 1kg738 and PA Child Abuse.
PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to stand; walk on uneven surfaces; sit; handle or feel objects; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear. The employee must be able to lift up to 25 pounds. The employee may be exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time. The noise level is usually minimal to moderate.

Pay: $40,000.00 - $48,500.00 per year
