Location: North Adams, MA Category: Other Posted On: Thu Sep 29 2022 Job Description:The Help Yourself Program Coordinator coordinates planning, management, and administration of the program. The program brings together MCLA, the Help Yourself Foundation, and North Adams Public Schools to provide after school STEM programs for students in third, fourth, and fifth grade.
Purpose of the program: The Help Yourself program provides high-need students, as qualified by MA Department of Education, with opportunities to participate in regular, after school programming on the MCLA campus. Students participate in hands-on, STEM lessons with support from NAPS teachers, MCLA faculty, and MCLA students. Students advance their academic skills, increase awareness of STEM fields, and build college-going attitudes.
Responsibilities in detail:
Work with the Associate Dean and the North Adams Public Schools (NAPS) to identify and secure staffing to assign program roles, including classroom teachers, classroom assistants, mentors, MCLA faculty, and guest speakers.
Maintain and manage the program budget and, in collaboration with college administrators, manage contracts, purchase orders, and human resources paperwork.
Plan and guide all aspects of the program, including curriculum, field trips, speakers, events, transportation, recruitment, media, compliance paperwork, communication with parents and stakeholder, program evaluation, annual reporting, logistics, space, and end-of-semester showcase events.
Develop annual calendar of events, including classes, field trips, lectures, and mentoring, including events at MCLA and around the region; coordinate space and transportation.
Support NAPS outreach and recruiting of students and families, with a focus on identifying students demonstrating need and interest in the program; emphasis will be placed on returning as many cohort participants as possible.
Provide a newsletter periodically for families of participating students.
Serve as liaison to classroom teachers and NAPS staff to develop promotional materials, recruit and enroll students, secure required compliance paperwork, and coordinate and support project elements contained on and off the MCLA campus.
Work with classroom teachers and assistants to ensure curriculum is standards-based, project-based, and hands-on, and supported by college faculty and students.
Secure supplies and materials needed to deliver the curriculum.
Serve as liaison with MCLA faculty to support guest lectures, team-taught lessons, access to MCLA spaces and equipment, and MCLA student mentors.
Work with MCLA staff to coordinate involvement of MCLA students as assistants and mentors to the Help Yourself program students.
Support college aspirational activities, such as tours and sample college lessons through MCLA Admissions.
Refine a program handbook based on other Help Yourself programs and the NAPS 21st Century Learning program.
Organize an end-of-semester (twice) showcase event for families.
Create and implement a program evaluation plan, collect data, and produce an end-of-year report that include evidence of student retention and an increase in the educational awareness and aspirations of participating students.

Job Requirements:
Minimum of three years of experience in an educational setting.
A bachelor's degree or higher.
Ability to communicate effectively, and respond tactfully and respectfully, to constituencies on and off campus.
Highly organized.
Ability to work independently on a variety of tasks simultaneously.
Ability to maintain accurate records and pay attention to detail.
Ability to work as a member of a support team.
Availability and willingness to work evening hours occasionally.
