The Delores Taylor Arthur School for Young Men seeks a motivated and dynamic, High School Spanish Teacher.

The Delores Taylor Arthur School for Young Men is operated by Lyceum Schools, Inc and has been authorized by the Orleans Parish School Board. The school opened in August of 2020 enrolling students in the ninth grade. In the 2022-23 academic year, grades 8 and 10 will be added. The school has received financial and/or technical support from Camelback Ventures, High Tech High Graduate School of Education, The Jennie Savage Fund, The Global Debate Symposium at Colorado College, New Schools for New Orleans, the Booth-Bricker Fund, Entergy and a host of donors and friends throughout the United States.

Our school is unique in New Orleans in that it is the only public, open-enrollment school in New Orleans with a male-focused mission. Our goal is to change the way that the urban male is educated with the goal of increasing college and career readiness and in the end reversing the trends of poverty and mass incarceration that cripple our society.

You are up with the sun and have trouble sleeping because you have so many ideas about how to inspire your students and make the educational experience more robust and engaging. You understand that the young men that you teach come with challenges and you are excited to ruthlessly travel the road to excellence with them.

You are still a student. While you love students more than anything else about this process, you are still excited about your academic discipline. Because this is an environment where project-based learning and interdisciplinary work forms the core of what we do, it excites you to learn from your colleagues and students and share your absolute best ideas with them.

Responsibilities:

The chief responsibilities of the instructor will be to deliver instruction in high school Spanish courses which could include Spanish I or Spanish II.

• Education and Experience

• Bachelor’s Degree in Education or related field; Master’s preferred
• Demonstrated ability to work with students, parents, and staff from diverse backgrounds
• General knowledge of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Google Drive

Salary is commensurate with experience.
