JOB SUMMARY
We are looking for a compassionate and organized person to help develop plans and serve homeless children and their families in the Oklahoma public school system. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, have a positive attitude, and be a team player. A key to succeeding in this role is the ability to stay calm and empathize with children and families who are affected by homelessness.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
-
Bachelor’s degree in education, social work, counseling, public health or other social service related field [official transcripts required upon hire];
-
Two (2) years’ experience in education;
-
One (1) year of experience in social work, public health, or working with homeless populations.
-
An equivalent combination of education and experience, substituting one year of the above-defined professional experience for each year of the required education; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
-
Master’s Degree in education, social work, counseling, public health or other social service related field; [official transcripts required upon hire];

Experience working with homeless students.

Provide a collaborative link between schools and the Oklahoma State Department of Education; provide leadership for improved Student Support Services;

Collect and track data in the effectiveness of services rendered; report data pertaining to the services and assistance provided in the area of Student Support;

Organize, supervise and encourage state, regional and district improvement in Student Support programs through professional development focused on assuring that all participants achieve increased capacity to assist students;
-
Coordinate activities and collaborate with professional associations , educators, service providers to homeless children, housing services, local education agency liaisons, and community organizations;
-
Develop plans and provide information in order to improve the provision of comprehensive education and related services to homeless children and youths and their families;
-
Communicate with school (LEA) leaders/constituents in the state concerning state policies, legislation, and current programs;
-
Ability to remain calm and open-minded, good decision-making skills, reliability to and effectively communicate with supervisors, team members, school personnel; effectively communicate with State Board of Education members and legislators; deliver engaging presentations to diverse groups of stakeholders; establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, school officials and the general public; to express clearly and concisely the philosophies, practices, and policies of the Oklahoma State Department of Education, as well as ideas, strategies, and programs relating to student support service;

Familiarity with state and federal regulations (specifically: Americans with Disability Act, Civil Rights Act of 1964, Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), and Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA);

Considerable knowledge of school-based services/programs for students at all grade levels (PK-12);

Knowledge of technology, especially Microsoft Suite, and the ability to use it to maximize efficiency and services;
-
Willingness and ability to perform necessary job-related travel;
-
Conscientious commitment and willingness to provide courteous, consistent and efficient service through the performance of the prescribed job duties.
TRAVEL
-
30% in-state/out-of-state travel may be required to conduct, facilitate and/or attend meetings and trainings.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

This is a field-based position and requires travel in and around Oklahoma, with occasional visits to the Oklahoma State Department of Education in Oklahoma City for departmental meetings and trainings;

Travel to school districts in Oklahoma.

Occasional periods of standing, reaching, and bending;

While performing the duties of the job, employee is frequently required to talk, stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms;

Frequently operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine/printer, office telephone;

Frequently ascends/descends stairs;

Frequently communicates with others accurately and effectively;

Frequently lift to 25 lbs.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis;

Successful completion of pre-employment background check;

Must possess a US drivers’ license to perform necessary job-related travel.
