Job description
Primary Duties:
- Adherence to the top 10 safety leadership behaviors and to set the example in safety leadership throughout the plant
- To manage and be accountable for all base glass manufacturing including batch plant, furnace, tin bath and lehr operations. Responsible for all hot end maintenance and engineering activities.
- To direct and coordinate the Process Improver to meet both plant and departmental goals in manufacturing performance, health and safety, housekeeping, product quality, and cost control.
- To coordinate all the department’s scheduling and maintenance activities to ensure that the plant goals are met in terms of throughput, quality, and yield.
- To provide direction, leadership, and support to the supervisors within the Glassmaking and hot end maintenance departments through constant goal setting and performance evaluation.
- Develop and maintain departmental safety rules and safe work practices ensuring that each employee is working in a safe environment. Enforce safety rules and work practices within each department and conduct appropriate safety training.
- Manage departmental expenses to meet budgets. Work with department employees to create cost reduction projects.
- Review and monitor departmental equipment and supplies to make sure that they are available and in proper working order. Develop and maintain the department capital projects.
- Maintain an open line of communication with all manufacturing departments.
- Coordinate with production and scheduling to ensure that the manufacturing plan will meet product mix requirements for warehousing.
- Work with shift managers on all day to day responsibilities and other area managers regarding plant wide issues.
- Work with departmental hourly employees to improve work procedures and enhance productivity.
- Work with plant staff members regarding production, finance, human resources, quality, and cutting issues.
- Adherence to NSG/Pilkington Standards of Business Conduct and its Values and Principles.
Experience
Required- 5 - 10 years: Qualifications Required: • BS degree in Ceramic, Chemical or Mechanical Engineering, or related field required. • 5-10 years’ experience in glassmaking. • Minimum 5 years of Supervisory & Managerial experience. Qualifications Desired: • Excellent Communication Skills • Six Sigma, Green Belt, Black Belt • Adaptable • Glass Industry Experience
Education
Preferred- Bachelors or better in Mechanical Engineer or related field
