The Human Resources Generalist plays a leading role in making Upstate Vet, Asheville a great place to work and supports the daily functions of the Human Resources (HR) department, including but not limited to: recruiting, compensation and benefits administration, employee relations, training and talent development, FMLA/leave administration, rewards, and employee events.
Job Responsibilities:
- Sources, screens, interviews, and hires talented and qualified candidates for open positions; collaborates with departmental managers to define the skills and competencies required for openings.
- Leads investigations and participates in employee disciplinary meetings and terminations
- Plans, coordinates, and supports the annual open enrollment process and meetings
- Creates, maintains, and updates employee records in Dayforce or ADP
- Administers leaves (FMLA, military, personal), ensuring compliance with company policies and all applicable laws and statutes
- Conducts new employee orientation and onboarding
- Plans, coordinates, and executes employee events and celebrations
- Develops, implements, and administers effective employee recognition programs
- Manages employment-related inquiries from applicants, employees, and supervisors, escalates complex and/or sensitive matters to senior leadership and HRBP.
- Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance.
- Stays well-informed of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and recent technologies in human resources and employment law.
- Performs other duties as assigned by manager
Basic Qualifications:
- Excellent verbal and written communication and negotiation skills.
- Strong time-management skills and attention to detail.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- High integrity and professionalism
- Thorough knowledge of employment-related laws and regulations.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
- Proficiency with HRIS and talent management systems.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field experience required
- 2 or more years of Human Resources experience
- Professional certification (SHRM-CP/SCP, PHR, SPHR, etc.) preferred
