Direct Support Professional Certification for NYC Youth

The Advanced Track at AHRC NYC's Advance & Earn Program is preparing the Next Generation of Direct Support Professionals with high level, paid trainings. We are setting NYC Youth up to be incredible mentors and change makers in the field of disability services!

Participants who have their high school diplomas or equivalent and are between the ages of 18 and 24 can apply for our Direct Support Professional Certification Program. This track prepares youth for a demanding but rewarding career in the non-profit industry supporting people with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities.

Participants will receive the following trainings, certifications and experiences:

· NADSP (National Alliance of Direct Support Professionals) DSP Certifications Level 1 and 2

· Introduction to Developmental Disabilities and Core Competencies of Direct Support Professionals

· First-hand experience alongside expert mentors supporting people with disabilities in Residential, Day Habilitation, Community and Employment areas

· American Heart Association CPR and First Aid Certification

· Paid Internship ($15/hour for up to 250 hours) in one of the leading Non-Profit agencies in the filed with Job Placement.

Qualified Participants:

  • Are 18 to 24 years old
  • Have a High School Diploma or GED
  • Live in any of the five boroughs of New York City
  • Are out of school and have no post-secondary degree
  • Are unemployed, or work less than 25 hours per week
  • Are legally authorized to work in the United States
  • Note: Our GED Track serves youth 16 to 24 without their High School Diploma

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time, Internship

Pay: $15.00 - $18.00 per hour

Schedule:

  • Monday to Friday
  • Self-determined schedule
  • Weekend availability
