Job Summary:


The Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) Department of ICANN is responsible for the operational aspects of coordinating the Internet’s unique identifiers and maintaining the trust of the community to provide these services in an unbiased, responsible and effective manner.

The IANA Services Specialist position is part of the team responsible for delivering the IANA Services. Specialists will learn a number of different areas, all of which will require applying detailed analysis to incoming requests of varing complexity; validating against global policies and procedures; and exercising independent judgement and discretion in processing requests while meeting service level requirements with accuracy. Other duties will include special projects, preparation of reports for ICANN and its global partners, and managing and maintaining documentation on the internal processes.


Key Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Independently process both routine and specialized requests from global stakeholders in one or more of the areas of responsibility in performing the IANA functions (i.e., Domain Names, Number Resources and Protocol assignments). All job duties will be performed with minimal oversight and supervision.
  • Ability to switch between multiple systems, business processes and work, each with unique rule-sets and requirements while performing work with accuracy and to service level requirements.
  • Evaluate received requests to ensure accuracy; assess consistency with current policies and involve subject matter experts when necessary.
  • Validate that the received technical information is in compliance with the established technical requirements.
  • Consult with subject matter experts and collaborate with colleagues on responses to IANA related questions.
  • Gather and analyze data to prepare formal reports to be published and disseminated at staff briefings and presented to ICANN stakeholders and partners. Be able to independently prepare formal reports after training period.
  • Write internal reports related to specific requests.
  • Establish and maintain documentation pertaining to key internal IANA Services processes and suggest changes where appropriate.
  • 24x7 on-call availability: if an emergency to a tld occurs, the participant is expected to be reachable via mobile phone to provide resolution processing and escalation activities.
  • Work on special projects as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs):

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Broad knowledge of and experience with the Domain Name System and fundamentals of Internet Addressing is preferred.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Service-oriented communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented and organized with the ability to switch amongst a wide variety of tasks.
  • Self-motivated team player with strong ability to interact with others. Ability to work independently (self-motivated).
  • Ability to follow documented procedures while exercising independent judgment and discretion in analyzing requests.
  • Ability to proactively identify problems, propose solutions, or escalate issues as appropriate.
  • Ability to grasp broader implications of complex issues (such as impacts to service level agreements, policy requirements, operational impact).

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • Minimum two (2) years of experience working in a professional environment or equivalent
  • Prior international experience as well as experience working in a multi-stakeholder environment are preferred.

Language

  • Fluency, both written and spoken, in English is required
  • ICANN is a global organization that values diversity; preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated skills in additional languages besides English

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements:

  • Work is performed in a normal office environment with limited privacy and some exposure to background noise
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand and walk. The employee regularly is required to sit. The employee is frequently required to talk or hear; use hands and arms to reach, handle or feel. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.
  • The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
Targeted Base Salary Low:
$50,000
Targeted Base Salary High:
$70,000
