Job description

We are looking for a warm, welcoming, energetic teacher to add to team of educators! Your schedule is flexible to what you want - we want to place you with the age group you prefer and the subjects you are most confident in on days that work for you! Sessions are offered Monday through Friday, 3:30pm-7:30pm. You do not need to be available for all hours! Groups of students are limited to three students each, so that you have time to build relationships and get to know your students well!

We are specifically looking for a teacher available to tutor in-person with after school availability. When working in-person, the teacher must wear a mask. All students and families continue to wear masks within the center as well. If opportunities arise to work remotely, the teacher must have their own device and reliable internet. The teacher must:

• Be able to teach elementary, middle school, and high school students in reading and writing (ability to teach early reading will allow us to schedule you for more hours!)

• Be comfortable with technology.

• Have a Bachelor's Degree. Current graduate students are highly encouraged to apply!

• Teaching experience and certification is a plus!

• Wear a mask in the center and follow all safety guidelines required by the state/county laws and regulations as well as all policies outlined by Sylvan Learning of North and Northeast Portland.

We are currently teaching students online and in-person, but most of our students are in-person. Our students can range from K through college. However, most of our students are between 3rd and 8th grade.

The schedule is flexible - we offer sessions Monday through Friday 3:30pm- 7:30pm during the school year. You are not expected to work all of the hours that we offer lessons! Our current teachers work between 2 hours and 25 hours each week. If you are available for only a few hours each week and believe you are a good fit for this position, please still apply!

Job Type: Part-time

Starting Pay Rate: $16.00 per hour

Paid Sick Time: Teachers receive one hour of sick time for every 30 hours worked. We can also reschedule students when you are sick to meet with you on a different day.
