The Infectious Disease Fellowship at Eisenhower Health is a comprehensive two-year, ACGME accredited training program which provides fellows-in-training a unique opportunity to gain expertise in the field of infectious disease medicine. We offer training in a nurturing and structured learning environment that encourages the fellow to enrich their clinical skills, medical knowledge, and experience in diagnosing and treating a variety of infectious diseases to help them become more competent, effective, and independent clinicians

Fellows will master the core principles of Infectious Disease Medicine in an evidence-based approach toward the evaluation and management of simple and complex medical conditions commonly encountered among adult population; and develop an organized, collaborative, coordinated, and interdisciplinary approach to meet the growing demand and health care needs of those who have infectious disease across all care settings

All fellows-in-training, under the supervision and mentorship of the attending physician, will actively participate and are expected to apply ACGME core competencies in providing compassionate, comprehensive, coordinated, culturally sensitive, goal directed, and patient-centered medical care

Qualifications
-
Required: Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO)

Required: Completion of specific ACGME Program as applicable for Fellowship
-
Required: Possess/obtain a Full and Unrestricted California Medical License within 90 days of Fellowship start date
-
Required: Valid DEA License
-
Required: BLS (ACLS, PALS as applicable for program) within 30 days of hire (to be provided in Orientation as needed).

Essential Responsibilities
-
Demonstrates compliance with Code of Conduct and compliance policies, and takes action to resolve compliance questions or concerns and report suspected violations.
-
Admission, consultation, evaluation, diagnosis and non-surgical treatment of patients with Infectious Disease. Provides safe, effective and compassionate patient care under supervision.
-
Develop an organized, collaborative, coordinated, and interdisciplinary approach to meet the growing demand and health care needs of individuals with infectious disease(s) across all care settings.

Develop expertise in diagnosing and managing medical illnesses related to infectious diseases.
-
Demonstrates dexterity and competency to perform all essential and required procedures and provides complete, written documentation of all procedures.
-
Identifies need for patient education and orders or provides education.
-
Comprehensively documents in patients’ charts in a timely and accurate manner.
-
Demonstrates awareness and sensitivity to patient and family issues, including age, gender, sexual orientation, and cultural diversity.

Functions with an awareness and application of standard operating procedures including OSHA, Workers Right to Know, Clinical Compliance, General Safety, and HIPAA.
-
Efficiently performs in emergency situations, including adherence to established clinic and hospital specific protocols.

Demonstrates applied knowledge base including integration of skills as required through block rotation experiences.

Participates actively in all educational and residency program activities and assumes responsibility for teaching other residents and medical students performing their clerkships at EMC.
-
Demonstrates awareness and applies knowledge of legal issues in all aspects of patient care, incorporating risk management skills, and quality control measures.
-
Actively participates on any assigned hospital committee as a member.
-
Demonstrates effective communication skills.
-
Provides coverage for temporary staffing conflicts of the Residency Program.
-
Demonstrates ability for effective problem identification and resolution as well as the exercise of independent judgment.
-
Participates in research and scholarly activities.
-
Present at National Infectious Diseases Medicine Conferences.
-
Provides teaching, supervision, and serves as a role model to Residents and Medical Students.
-
Performs other duties as assigned by the Internal Medicine Residency Program Director & Infectious Disease Fellowship Director, in accordance with the description of the Fellowship, to the best of his/her ability and under the highest personal bond of professional morals and ethics.

Develops and maintains a personal program of self-study and professional growth with guidance of the Internal Medicine Residency faculty and Infectious Disease Fellowship Director.
