Position Description:

The Information Security Engineer is responsible for ensuring the security of the company’s information, business systems, hardware, software, platforms and infrastructure. The position works closely with IT Management, DevOps engineers as well as infrastructure engineers and software development engineers to ensure our systems are built securely and remain secure throughout their lifecycle. This position should be familiar with security at all levels – including software, hardware, network.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Develop Information Security Plans and Policies

• The Information Security Engineer helps plan and carry out an organization’s information security strategy. They develop a set of security standards and best practices for the organization and recommend security enhancements to management as needed. They develop strategies/software to respond to and recover from a security breach. Information Security Engineers are also responsible for educating the workforce on information security through training and building awareness.

Implement Protections

• Install and use software, such as EDR, scanning tools, firewalls and data encryption programs, to protect organizations’ digital assets and sensitive information. They also assist computer users with installation or processing of new security products and procedures.

Vulnerability Management

• Conducts regular scans to identify vulnerabilities and implements patch management strategies to remediate vulnerabilities. They also conduct penetration testing, in which they simulate an attack on the system to highlight or find any weaknesses that might be exploited by a malicious party.

Monitor for Security Breaches

• The Information Security Engineer must constantly monitor the organization’s platforms, systems and networks for security breaches or intrusions. They install software that helps to notify them of intrusions, and investigate irregular system behavior.

Investigate Security Breaches

• If a breach has occurred, The Directory of Information Security leads incident response activities to minimize the impact. Afterwards, they lead a technical and forensic investigation into how the breach happened and the extent of the damage. They prepare reports of their findings to be reported to management.

Requirements:

• Bachelor degree or equivalent work experience
• Direct experience with anti-virus software, intrusion detection, firewalls, and content filtering
• Experience with protecting PII and PCI (required) and COPPA (preferred)
• Knowledge of risk assessment tools, technologies and methods
• Experience designing secure networks, systems and application architectures
• Knowledge of disaster recovery, business continuity, computer forensic tools technologies and tools
• Experience in planning, researching and developing security policies, standards and procedures
• Five Experience in a sys admin role and backend system engineering role supporting multiple platforms and applications
• Experience working in large cloud or Internet software company preferred
• Extensive hands on knowledge of system administration and Linux/Unix operating systems
• Security tool development (scanning, encryption/decryption of data at rest and in transport)
• Ability to communicate network security issues to peers and management

Job Types: Full-time, Contract

Pay: $140,000.00 - $145,000.00 per year
