Boeing Commercial Airplanes (BCA) is currently seeking an Inspector Material Tester B in Auburn, WA.


Employees in this position work independently to plan, check, set-up and operate a variety of test equipment to perform physical tests of any raw materials and parts to determine such properties as hardness, tensile strength, compression strength, yield strength and torque. Tests require the preparation and measurement of test specimens, the set up and operation of all types of physical test apparatus and equipment, the recording of test data, the calculating of areas and unit stresses, and the plotting of stress strain curves. Adapt available equipment to various tests and design and improvise special setups.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Use blueprints, drawings, various specifications, inspection manuals, handbook formulas and tables, mathematics, including trigonometry, etc., in the accomplishment of work assignments.

  • Test all forms of raw materials such as metals, fabrics, textiles and plastics and also test semi-finished materials such as castings, forgings, cables, and hose and sandwich panels.

  • Proof load miscellaneous equipment such as safety belts, slings, handling equipment, etc.

  • Refer questionable cases, suggested improvements or changes to lead inspector or supervisor.

  • Analyze problems, involving equilibrium of forces and moment, stresses, etc.

  • Review manufacturers technical test reports for accuracy and completeness relative to test methods, sample size, force values, load rates, fixture and load frame requirements.

  • Work with engineering, suppliers, FAA and airline customer representatives to develop and improve the testing process.

  • Contact other departments within the company and customer to accomplish work assignments.

  • Prepare data for test reports as required.

  • Follow inspection procedures to accept or reject the materials or parts inspected.

  • Use universal testing machines, hardness test equipment, extensometers, stress-strain recorders, and other comparable test equipment.

  • Assist lead inspector in the training of lower grade employees.


This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

This position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a United States Person as defined by 22 C.F.R. §120.15 is required. "US Person" includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.


Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • 1+ years of experience in utilizing and following detailed work instructions, reading and interpreting blueprints, drawings, or specifications.

  • Experience with aircraft unique tools such as support equipment/test equipment, torque wrenches, dial indicators.


Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience:

  • 1+ years of experience in operation, integration, installation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of automatic test equipment.

  • 3+ years of experience in creating and documenting test plans/procedures, executing tests, analyzing results, and/or creating test reports.

Typical Education:

High school graduate or GED preferred.

Relocation:

This position is located in a location that does not offer relocation. Candidates must live in the immediate area or relocate at their own expense.
