Department or School Site THE POSITION:

There is currently one vacancy on the Student Safety Investigation

Team.

An Investigative Assistant provides technical support to investigators in

the Student Safety Investigation Team OR the Office of the Inspector

General in the planning and conducting of complex and highly sensitive

investigations regarding alleged employee misconduct, including

violence against children and other egregious misconduct.


STUDENT SAFETY INVESTIGATION TEAM (SSIT)

The Student Safety Investigation Team (SSIT) performs administrative

investigations, which involve matters of alleged misconduct by

employees that impact student safety, when an employee has been

formally reassigned away from his/her regularly assigned work site. The

SSIT’s investigations include allegations of sexual and non-sexual
misconduct.

The SSIT’s responsibility includes consultation and assistance to support
Local District/Division investigations not handled by SSIT. The Team

serves as a resource for communication with law enforcement in criminal

matters that involve LAUSD employees. The Team reports to the

Division of School Operations.

OFFICE OF THE INSPECTOR GENERAL (OIG)

The Office of the Inspector General’s (OIG) mission is to help Los
Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) achieve its core mission by

promoting a culture of accountability, transparency, collaboration, and

integrity through the performance of audit and investigative services

designed to drive continuous improvement, support effective decision

making and detect and deter waste, fraud, and abuse. The OIG is a

member of the Education Fraud Working Group, which includes local,

state, and federal law enforcement partners. The office’s vision is to be a
proactive and highly capable Inspector General organization that

contributes to the quality of public education in the Los Angeles Unified

School District.

The Office of Investigations conducts investigations of waste, fraud, and

abuse to safeguard District resources, programs, and operations. These

investigations are designed to detect and prevent fraud and abuse by

identifying systemic weaknesses in areas of program vulnerability that

can be eliminated through corrective management actions, regulations,

legislation, or by pursuing criminal convictions and monetary recoveries

through the judicial and administrative processes.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE FOR THIS POSITION WILL:

  • Be experienced in assisting investigators on child abuse and sexual
assault cases.
  • Be able to analyze and interpret data and utilize the information to
prepare clear and concise reports.
  • Be strong in researching databases for information and identifying

information sources.

  • Due to the sensitive nature of the cases investigated, the ideal
candidate is vigilant in maintaining confidentiality of information and

evidence gathered.

  • Due to the position supporting multiple investigators with heavy
workloads, the ideal candidate would be flexible and effectively assist

investigators as new situations arise in assigned cases.

  • Posses effective communication skill, both orally and in writing.

Job Duties/Responsibilities An Investigative Assistant performs the following duties:

  • Accompanies investigators in the conduct of on-site reviews to obtain
documents and serves as a witness during interviews.
  • Performs researches through database systems and sorts, retrieves,
and interprets data to identify information pertinent to the investigation.
  • Provides technical support to the investigators in the planning and
conduct of complex and sensitive investigations regarding possible

fraudulent activities or incidents of child abuse.

  • Reviews material received by investigators through search warrants,
subpoenas, and on-site investigations.
  • Responsible for the recording, storage, and appropriate disposition of
physical evidence taken by investigators.
  • Evaluates and extracts pertinent investigative data from a wide variety
of documents, records, and reports.
  • Maintains liaison with law enforcement offices, organizations, the
Courts, and others involved in investigations.
  • Monitors investigations on a daily basis and identifies potential
problems and problems in meeting critical deadlines and target dates.
  • Notes alteration of documentation which may impact on the evidence
and brings it to the attention of the investigator.
  • Reviews investigative case files and reports to ensure accuracy of
data.

Minimum Requirements EDUCATION: Graduation from a recognized college or university with a

bachelor’s degree. Additional qualifying experience may be substituted
for the required education on a year-for-year basis, provided that the

requirement of a high school diploma or equivalent is met.

EXPERIENCE: Two years of experience assisting with routine

investigative research associated with investigations of policy violations,

alleged fraud, waste, abuse, or criminal activity, or child abuse.

Special: The ability to speak both English and Spanish may be required

for some positions.

All employees must be fully COVID-19 vaccinated and must be able to

provide verification of their vaccination status as part of the hiring and

onboarding process prior to an official offer of employment to any District

site; this includes current employees who are being promoted to a new

job class.

Employment Selection Process The selection process for this position will tentatively consist of a

computerized skills assessment (Word, Excel, Outlook), and a technical

minimum qualifications, qualified candidates will be invited to the next

phase(s) of our selection process.

computer-based skill check assessments (Microsoft Outlook 2016,
