Job description
- Interviews and consults with clients and staff at the Centre County Correctional Facility, the State Correctional Institution at Rockview, the State Correctional Institution at Benner Township, the Central Counties Youth Detention Center, Mount Nittany Medical Center, The Meadows Psychiatric Center, and various other Institutions.
- Prepares and serves subpoenas and other legal papers.
- Operates office equipment, e.g. computers, photocopiers, scanners, facsimiles, etc. to carry out duties.
- Interacts with internal government offices and external government departments, i.e., police departments, prisons, District Justices, District Attorney, Probation, Sheriff, Clerk of Courts, Domestic Relations, Mental Health/Intellectual Disabilities, Children & Youth Services, Central Counties Detention Center, Family Intervention Crisis Services, and Prothonotary, etc.
- Interviews potential witnesses, prepares reports concerning those interviews, and prepares to testify in court.
- Conducts field investigations and prepares reports. Photographs and videotapes crime scenes and other areas, collecting evidence, audio tape witnesses as needed and prepares reports.
- Searches and collects public and institutional records and locates witnesses. Investigates and follows-up leads on cases regardless of location or time of day.
- Coordinates court appearances of incarcerated clients with Sheriff.
- Maintains strict confidentiality of client.
- Performs other job related duties as required.
- Schedules psychiatric examinations for clients as needed.
- Performs duties of support staff in their absence.
- Attends meetings, training, or in-service as required.
- Transports important and confidential documents to various locations.
- Schedules foreign language interpreters for preliminary hearings and other court dates.
Qualifications
Required Education: Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice or related field; -OR– Paralegal certification and investigative experience; -OR- Any equivalent combination of acceptable training and experience. Required Experience: Two to three (2-3) years working experience involving investigation work and additional technical training in criminal justice system and/or related field. Experience in criminal justice system or related field preferred.
Special Requirements
Must possess a valid Pennsylvania driver’s license and a willingness to travel as needed.
