Job Summary
The IoT Technician position will provide technical and product support for a distributed network of proprietary IoT devices installed across a wide geographic area of the city. The IoT Technician will become an expert user of the software, hardware, and firmware components the city's IoT systems platforms and will need to have a strong comfort level working with software interfaces as well as hardware. The IoT Technician will also become an expert user of non-network devices. City devices include IP Cameras and access control devices for doors and gates. The ideal candidate will have experience in computer networks, monitored security Video Management Systems, and/or access/alarm control systems as they operate in a similar network topology or have worked within a custom IT or IoT environment. The IoT Technician will work to resolve issues using the telephone, email, and remote desktop processes. They will work with vendors and system administrators to understand software functionality and create documentation for support and training. Must be organized and able to successfully manage multiple requests and projects with shifting and/or growing job responsibilities.
Job Responsabilities:
· Work on all assigned task or other special project task directed by the Municipal Security Manager.
· Troubleshoot, diagnose, and correct low voltage installation issues that arrive in the field.
· Investigate and resolve issues or escalate if necessary.
· Become a technical point of contact with outside building managers, project managers, AHJ's, electricians and different subcontractors for product installation.
· Communicate and support remotely through telephone and email as necessary.
· Work with other CCTV/Access Devices that are not network devices and troubleshoot and resolve issues as directed by the MSU Manager.
· Ensure compliance with all applicable codes and standards.
· Provide a positive experience to users and be a face of the company in the field by helping achieve finished installation results of the product.
· Experience working with high-volume ticketing system for service.
· Provide follow-up on customer service by email or telephone after service is completed and update MSU’s work order system in a timely manner.
· Submit reports as required on security related issues to the MSU Manager.
· Follow all company procedures and safety practices.
· Complete all work orders effectively and efficiently.
· Train and prepare users or operators with proper operating procedures.
· Must work well with others and be an effective communicator.
Experience and Certifications :
Associate degree in a technical field is preferred.
CompTIA A+ , Network +, or other related field certifications are preferred.
3+ years of experience working with networked devices.
Experience working with Microsoft Office Systems (MOS) and Adobe Pro.
Customer service experience is preferred.
Knowledge of computer networking protocols such as TCP/IP, HTTP is preferred.
Physical and Mental Demands:
This position requires the incumbent to work in a fast-paced environment, with the ability to meet frequent deadlines. While performing the duties of this job, the incumbent must regularly sit and talk or hear. The incumbent is frequently required to use hands to touch, handle or feel. The incumbent is occasionally required to stand and walk. The incumbent may be required to occasionally perform a full range of motion with lifting and/or carrying items weighing up to 25 pounds. The mental and physical requirements described here are representative of those that must be met by an individual to successfully perform the essential functions of this position.
Working Enviroment
Work is performed in a standard office environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The incumbent may be required to travel to job sites, other City buildings and locations.
