This position is a member of the Enterprise System Engineering team. This position is responsible for system administration, NetApp storage technologies, datacenter operations, Microsoft and Linux server operating systems, and related infrastructure. This position is responsible for server, storage and software at multiple institutions including the System Office, the Shared Services Center, and infrastructure located at the two VCCS enterprise data centers, and does not require face-to-face interaction with the public, including students. This position routinely completes remote after-hours and weekend upgrades, patches, and maintenance on server, storage, and software infrastructure to minimize service interruptions during normal business hours. It is expected that the employee will be capable of working on a fully remote basis, planning time appropriately and going to work locations, VCCS datacenters and wherever needed throughout the VCCS in order to ensure the successful operation of system infrastructure serving all 23 colleges located throughout Virginia. The employee will attend all required meetings as necessary, either in person or from remote locations as dictated by present circumstances. The employee will be generally available during normal work hours but will be fully prepared to routinely work as needed outside of those hours in order to maintain the 24×7 service required by the VCCS.
