L1 System Integration and Validation Engineer
Job description
This position is focused on system integration and validation of our 5G-NR O-RAN RU platform.
Responsibilities include
- The candidate will define, develop, and execute test methodologies for validating end-to-end system level performance/functionality of 5G-NR gNodeB specifically across the DU-RU interface based on ORAN specifications.
- Prime responsibility will be system integration and test of L1-split on the O-RU, develop PHY Integration framework, process, and automation tools for functions implemented on SoC IP and verify CU-plane functionality, configuration setup as defined by ORAN specification.
- Additional responsibility includes integration and test of: ORAN FH, IOT profiles, conformance, DU-RU L1/L2 settings, L3 call validation with UE and analysis of system logs.
- Define test plan, execute tests, automate and trouble shoot O-RU under test with Keysight O-RAN emulation and DU to investigate/debug issues with L1 performance and perform detailed post-processing analysis.
- Assist RF verification team responsible for comprehensive validation of DFE and RF conformance testing of 5G-NR + O-RAN RU.
- Work closely with systems engineering, software/hardware developers and operations teams to clearly identify and rectify non-compliant issues.
Preferred Experience
- 5+ years in system integration and test with experience in modem PHY layer design / bring-up / integration / performance validation and productization either on base station or UE side.
- Strong knowledge of 3GPP 5G-NR / LTE / OFDMA air-interface protocol including PHY/MAC parameter optimization.
- Strong fundamentals in Wireless Communications and Digital Signal Processing with specific emphasis on Signal Detection and Estimation, Timing and Synchronization, Tx power control, channel estimation.
- Deep experience testing OFDM Physical layer blocks and procedures such as MIMO layer mapping, precoding, RE mapping, iFFT/FFT, CP, PRACH, sampling, filtering, fixed/floating point formats, link adaptation, L1-control.
- Familiarity and experience with O-RAN WG4 specifications, bring-up of ORAN / CPRI front-haul is a plus. Ability to build expertise, perform in-depth investigation into ORAN WG4 specifications and propose modifications or alterative solutions.Exposure to Keysight suite of radio testing, preferably Keysight O-RAN studio/Pathwave/Signal Studio.
- Experience operating test equipment including spectrum analyzers, signal generators, channel emulators, callboxes, and protocol testers etc.
- Strong background in Matlab / Python/ Shell scripting and use of toolboxes to generate and conduct customized PHY layer tests.
- Experience in modem architecture, microprocessor architecture, hardware, and software control.
- Knowledge of Qualcomm QXDM, QCAT, Wireshark is a plus.
- Ability to work in a small team and drive to go beyond expectations to deliver results.
Education
Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering with specialization in Wireless Communications is strongly preferred.
