Project Overview

Bechtel is on the Northrop Grumman Corp. team preparing to deliver the U.S. Sentinel (Ground Based Strategic Deterrent) system of inter-continental ballistic missiles and launch infrastructure. Sentinel (GBSD) is a vital U.S. Air Force program designed to modernize the nation’s aging force of inter-continental ballistic missiles, which make up the ground element of the nuclear deterrent. As part of the Northrop Grumman Sentinel (GBSD) nationwide team, Bechtel will provide launch system design, construction, and integration.

Position Summary

This position is for a Lead NX Design Integration Engineer to lead a team charged with executing engineering and configuration management activities including management, organization, and verification of complex design requirements. The Lead NX Engineer plays a critical role in the delivery of the design model, Product Lifecycle Management, as well as for coordination of the scope and integration of work with internal and external stakeholders. The successful candidate must have strong management and leadership skills, proven problem-solving abilities, can-do attitude, and the desire to innovate designs. This position will be responsible for leading the execution of engineering work assignments concerned with specialized unique engineering requirements in a global business unit. The ideal candidate will have solid experience managing teams of designers and engineers in executing requirements management, 3-D solids modeling in NX platform, model-based systems engineering, industrial process modeling, and design development experience producing design documents for government customers in accordance with Unified Facilities Criteria and the Whole Building Design Guide.


The candidate will be interfacing and coordinating with other engineering disciplines and the client in the management and verification of the facility requirements. The position will be responsible for developing key engineering documents and must have a broad knowledge of industry and regulatory standards, and design criteria pertinent to engineering and construction. In addition, it will be required that the candidate have excellent communication skills (both verbal and written).


The Lead NX Design Integration Engineer reports to the Engineering Automation and Digital Delivery Engineering Group Supervisor.


Responsibilities

  • Direction and oversight of tasks related to all the below, in addition to person competence in performing these responsibilities.
  • Manages manpower budgets and charging practices of designers and engineers.
  • Evaluates, selects, and applies standard engineering methods, techniques, procedures, and criteria, using independent judgment with limited oversight.
  • Develops key NX modeling and engineering deliverables related to the systems engineering, design change management, design interface control, and equipment configuration packages.
  • Executes requirements verification and acceptance criteria evaluations.
  • Engages with the customer to ensure alignment of delivery and design, and enhances communication opportunities.
  • Develop 3D modeling and design configuration packages.
  • Develop design configuration packages for configuration control and change management.
  • Executes impact analyses for proposed requirement changes.
  • Supports maintaining Configuration Management within the Program.
  • Supports the implementation and implement testing and verification plans for the program that is supportive of the overall execution strategy.
  • Accountable to capture, scrutinize and deconflict requirements across stakeholders and to subsequently assure delivery of hierarchical requirements management documents.
  • Coordinate closely with other technical disciplines in planning and executing work as an integrated team.


Qualifications and Skills

Basic Qualifications:

  • Engineer - Bachelor’s degree in engineering or design with at least 9 years of relevant experience in automation and NX modeling. In lieu of a degree, 15 years of relevant experience in engineering or design.
  • Designer - AA/AS degree or certification in an engineering or drafting/design with 11 years’ experience or; 15 years related experience.
  • US citizenship is required per contract requirement.
  • Possess active security clearance or ability to obtain security clearance.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Experience leading a small team of technical specialists consisting of designers, technicians, and/or engineers.
  • Experience evaluating and reporting on individual team member performance.
  • Experience executing design engineering with Siemens NX modeling tools, or other engineering modeling tools or similar type software packages.
  • Experience in Siemens Teamcenter collaboration tools or similar type Product Lifecycle Management software packages.
  • Knowledge of industry and regulatory guides, codes, and standards, Broad knowledge of the application of engineering design principles.
  • Experience with engineering implementation on projects executed for DOD, or other similar government agencies.
  • Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written).
  • Must be able to collaborate well with other disciplines. Ability to cope with conflicting deadlines, frequent interruptions, and multiple tasks.
  • Relevant experience includes, but is not limited to, similar type responsibilities for nuclear or industrial process facilities, data centers, central utility plants, complex building systems, or defense projects.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Hands on experience with Siemens NX through education, training, or practical experience.
  • Hands on experience with Siemens Teamcenter through education, training, or practical experience.
  • Experience in 3-D and Solid Modeling and Design /Systems Engineering.
  • Experience with manufacturing modeling.
  • Design experience with Unified Facilities Criteria and the Whole Building Design Guide.
  • Hands-on experience using Revit MEP, including Architectural interface, drawing generation, view templates, design options, and phasing.
  • Knowledge of Bechtel Corporate guides and standards.
  • Thorough knowledge of engineering deliverables, such as drawings and specifications.
  • Previous DoD/DoE, USACE, NAVFAC, USAF, or NASA project experience.
  • Experience working with procedures meeting quality assurance programs such as ISO-9000.
