Volunteers of America Upstate New York's Children's Center services provides educational programs focused on early childhood development and school readiness for children 6 weeks through 12 years old. The center serves more than 500 children and families on an annual basis and provides additional support services such as a full-time Registered Nurse, family development services, on-going parent training, full-day care, and disability supports for children with special needs.

Lead Teacher provides for all aspects of care and education in the classroom. The Lead Teacher is also responsible for integrating the curriculum performance standards in the overall management of the classroom, including promoting social, physical, and intellectual growth, and providing a safe, healthy environment for the enrolled children.

Full Time - 10 Month - M-F, Days

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBIITIES

  • Provide active, fully engaged supervision of the children at all times.
  • Provide developmentally appropriate activities and experiences to facilitate the childrens development in multiple areas.
  • Ensure that childs social, emotional, cognitive, and physical needs are met in the classroom.
  • Ensure that child assessments and screenings are completed.
  • Schedule and conduct individual parent-teacher conferences.
  • Maintain classroom cleanliness and compliance with all relevant regulations and standards, including state regulations, accreditation standards, and Universal Pre-K performance standards.
  • Attend meetings as needed and follow and implement the goals from, Public Schools or Early Intervention for children with an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) or Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP).
  • Implement strategies from the Mental Health/Behavioral Specialist for children with social-emotional or behavioral issues.
  • Organize and Implement developmentally appropriate lessons and activities reinforcing educational goals, attending to the individual needs of the children

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION QUALIFICATIONS

  • Valid NYS Teaching Certification (Birth-Grade 2, N-6, or Students with Disabilities Birth-Grade 2) required
  • Bachelors Degree in Early Childhood Education or related field, required
  • Masters Degree in Early Childhood Education or related field, preferred
  • Experience with implementation of High Scope Curriculum, preferred
  • Minimum of one year of classroom experience, required
