LEGAL COUNSEL—JUDICIARY COMMISSION

The Judiciary Commission of Louisiana is seeking a qualified attorney to serve as Counsel to the Commission. This position performs administrative and legal work for the Commission and manages the staff which includes two other attorneys, a paralegal and a legal secretary/processing clerk. Also handles legal research and prepares legal documents regarding judicial ethics and Commission issues, prepares recommendations for discipline in cases filed with the Supreme Court, and advises the Commission on policy and procedural matters. Also acts as “Clerk of Court” for the Judiciary Commission by filing and processing all pleadings, orders, subpoenas and other documents as well as managing, maintaining, and coordinating system-wide policies for the electronic case management system. Also provides presentations to judges, attorneys, and the public regarding the Commission, its procedures, and ethical issues.

Qualifications: A Juris Doctor from an accredited law school, membership in the Louisiana State Bar Association and minimum eight years of legal work experience required. Prefer at least two years of litigation experience. The position requires a high degree of confidentiality, leadership skills, flexibility to handle urgent matters, strong attention to detail, the ability to multi-task, a comfort level with computers and learning new software, and intuitive public relations skills. In addition, must have excellent legal analysis, research and writing abilities along with public speaking, supervisory, and budgeting experience. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Software including Word, Excel and Outlook required. Position is located in New Orleans.
