GENERAL JOB SUMMARY:
Under limited supervision, the library assistant will assist users, staff the circulation desk, and maintain an environment conducive to study. This individual must have knowledge of library terminology/procedures, make minor decisions, work cooperatively with other library personnel, and may supervise student workers. This position will work Monday-Thursday evenings and will be responsible for securing and closing the library. Occasional or regular weekend shifts may also be part of the duties for this position.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist patrons in locating and using resources and services.
  • Assists patrons in using printers, photocopiers, scanners, software and hardware.
  • Provide friendly directional and informational help.
  • Help supervise student workers at the circulation desk.
  • Maintain shelf order of library collections.
  • Assist in the inventory of equipment and materials.
  • Provide evening circulation services to patrons.
  • Maintain an environment that is clean, welcoming, and conducive to study.
  • Secure and close library.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES WITH/WITHOUT REASONABLE ACCOMMODATION:

The position involves working in an office setting. Occasional (10-33%) standing, pushing, pulling and grasping. Frequent (34-66%) reaching and viewing a computer and other types of close visual work. Constant (67-100%) sitting, walking, repetitive motion, talking and hearing.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required. Two years of relevant experience and /or post-high school training is equivalent to two years of full-time experience OR an appropriate Associate degree. Must have at least one-year of experience using word processing or microcomputer equipment. Must be able to work one evening per week.

PREFERRED
QUALIFICATIONS, LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, OR REGISTRATIONS :

  • Work experience in a library setting.
