Looking to make a difference is people’s lives? Healthy Families Manatee is an in home parenting program for parents with young children. Many of these families have past trauma, substance abuse, domestic violence, or mental health issues. The majority of families in this program would not normally have the means to access mental health services. By providing in-home counseling along with our parenting support program, we are able to break generational cycles of trauma, parenting, and so much more. This will be the most rewarding experience in your professional life!!

Position Summary/Objective:

Provide in-home counseling to Healthy Families participants.

Essential Functions: (Duties and Responsibilities)

  • Initiate voluntary in-home counseling services with families referred by the Family Engagement and Support Specialist (FSES).
  • Conduct psychosocial assessments to determine strengths, the extent of issues, the families’ readiness to engage in treatment, and barriers to intervention.
  • Provide families with referrals for additional services as needed.
  • Follow-up with service providers on these specialized services
  • Develop and update treatment plans with input from families, FSESs, and supervisors to address concerns identified at the initial assessment or during services
  • Work with the family in partnership with the FSESs
  • Conduct training for staff and/or families, as appropriate
  • Complete forms and paperwork in a timely and comprehensive manner as required.
  • Adhere to all agency policies and procedures.
  • Adhere to all Healthy Families Florida/Healthy Families Manatee policies and procedures.
  • Attend all meetings as required in a punctual, professional, and contributory manner.
  • Notify supervisor immediately of any safety concerns
  • Participate in Agency activities as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Master's Degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, or other similar degrees from an accredited college or university
  • Licensed in the state of Florida in Social Work (LCSW), Mental Health Counseling (LMHC) or Marriage and Family Therapy (LMFT)
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience providing individual and/or family therapy to those affected by not just mental health issues, but also substance abuse and domestic violence

Training Requirements:

  • Healthy Families training as required.

Specific Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

  • Must have excellent oral and written communication and organizational skills.
  • Must have demonstrated skills working in a Microsoft Windows environment and be able to use the Agency software within one month of hire.
  • Must have the ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operation instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Must be sensitive to the needs of the low-income community, demonstrate culturally competent skills, including an understanding of the impact of poverty on families.
  • Must be highly organized, accountable, and able to work independently.
  • Must be able to establish rapport with staff and families and empower them by building on their strengths.
  • Must be able to work in a collaborative, creative, problem-solving environment with major emphasis on program outcomes and family support.

Licenses/Certificates/Screenings:

  • Licensed in the state of Florida in Social Work (LCSW), Mental Health Counseling (LMHC) or Marriage and Family Therapy (LMFT)
  • Must have a valid Florida Driver’s License.
  • Must have reliable transportation for work-related travel, including nights and out of town.
  • Must be insurable under Step Up Suncoast's organizational policies.
  • Pre-employment drug screening required.
  • Must pass a Level II criminal background check.

Physical demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.
  • Must be able to lift and carry 20 pounds

Work environment:

  • The worksite will include a variety of settings based on work responsibilities including a normal office setting, client home settings, and other settings as needed to perform work responsibilities.

Expected hours of work:

  • Hours of work and days are typically Monday through Friday, from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. The employee may be called upon outside these hours to complete home visits or attend other functions of the position or agency as needed.

Travel:

  • Local travel to client homes and other agency meetings and training. Healthy Families training, conferences, and other meetings may be outside the local area and overnight.
