Purpose

Provide care for patients served in the Clinical Care Units at UT Health Austin to include answering questions, providing support and education as needed, as well as acting as a liaison between patients, families and the providers as required.

Responsibilities

  • Delivers nursing interventions to assigned patients that are consistent with stated medical plan of care utilizing the nursing process to assess, implement, and record patients' response in the medical record. Schedules patients' appointments, tests, and procedures via on-line computer system or telephone, and reinforces physician instructions in person and through telephone contact.
  • Provides patient education and documents patient's response in medical record. Ensures appropriate patient consents and authorizations are obtained for medical treatment.
  • Collect data and perform focused nursing assessments, assisting in the determination of predictable healthcare needs, within the scope of practice, under the supervision of a registered nurse, advanced practice nurse, physician’s assistant or physician.
  • Provides working assistance and assigns tasks to non-licensed medical staff, or office support personnel. Proficiency in electronic medical record documentation.
  • Prepares equipment and assists physicians during physical exams and medical procedures.
  • Inspects equipment and facilities visually and physically to ensure patient safety and proper functioning of equipment.
  • Prepares and administers medications as prescribed by physician.
  • Maintains adequate stock of supplies as required for work area. Attends and participates in meetings related to clinical activities.
  • Other duties performed are: a) Directly interacting with or caring for patients; b) Regularly maintaining, modifying, releasing or similarly affecting patient records (including patient financial records); or c) Regularly maintaining, modifying, releasing and coordinating patient care.

Marginal/Incidental Functions:

Other related functions as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Licensed Vocational Nurse credentialed from the Texas Board of Nursing. Three years of general nursing experience with administrative experience. Current CPR certification. At least three (3) years of experience in an outpatient clinical practice. Ability to work efficiently and flexibly in a fast-paced environment with minimal guidance. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Outstanding organizational and time-management skills. Ability to address individuals and information with a high degree of sensitivity and confidentiality in various delicate, formal, or urgent situations. Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with physicians, staff, and patients. Must be comfortable and flexible with changing priorities and self-directed problem solving.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Have Women’s Health experience. Five (5) or more years of experience in an outpatient clinical practice. Current certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (or will be provided with). Experience working with caregivers. Working knowledge of and/or experience with Value-Based Healthcare Delivery models. Experience delivering care through a multidisciplinary team. Proficiency using Athena electronic medical records. Bilingual in English and Spanish.

Salary Range

$50,000+ depending on qualifications
