Description
This position is responsible for sorting and distributing all mail for the Eleventh Judicial Circuit facilities. Couriers work in an office setting, sorting all inter-office mail that is collected from all offices under the direction of the Eleventh Judicial Circuit. Sorting usually occurs after the Couriers complete their daily runs to various court facilities. Supervision is received from an administrative supervisor who reviews work by regular visits to the area of assignment. In addition, an individual in this position will handle emergency deliveries and/or errands as needed and directed by the administrative supervisor.
Responsibilities
- Sorts all interoffice and U.S. Mail collected daily.
- Distributes all incoming and outgoing mail within Court facilities, County facilities and other agencies.
- Delivery of interoffice mail and U.S. Mail to the Branch Court facilities within the circuit.
- Handles emergency deliveries or errands as directed.
- Acts as driver-messenger back up.
- Puts postage on mail collected at the end of each day.
- Operates a vehicle to deliver and pick up mail, packages, records, materials, documents and other supplies at various Court facilities, County facilities and other agencies.
- Special deliveries/special requests.
- Performs related work as required.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- Must possess a valid Florida Drivers License.
- Must have and maintain a safe driving record. The safe driving record is required and a continuing condition of employment.
- One (1) year of clerical experience is preferred.
- Previous mail sorting and delivery experience preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs):
- Knowledge of U.S. Postal Service rules, regulations, rates, and documentation mandatory for processing U.S. Mail.
- Knowledge of the operation of standard and computerized mail processing equipment.
- Knowledge of geographical location of various court offices and facilities, County departments and agencies, and U.S. Postal Service facilities.
- Knowledge of the geography of Miami-Dade County including road networks and road numbering system.
- Knowledge of County budget codes and transactions.
- Knowledge of office practices and procedures.
- Ability to read and comprehend instructional manuals, regulations, and other official U.S. Postal Service materials.
- Ability to operate a variety of motor vehicles in a safe manner.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Physical Demands
Work involves a significant amount of walking, standing and reaching with hands and arms; must be able to lift boxes/packages weighing up to 75 pounds; must be able to climb stairs with heavy loads.Licenses Certifications
