We specialize in highways, bridges/structures, hydrology, and aviation design utilizing over 400 dedicated team members that take a results-driven approach to meeting the specific needs of our clients. We are currently looking for an experienced Maintenance Administrator/ Inspector to join our team working out of the District Office located in Albemarle.
Position Summary
This position will assist the District Engineer in Albemarle District Office with review of driveway permits, site plans, subdivision plans, road additions and abandonments, and encroachments for adherence to NCDOT policies and procedures, preparing contract cost estimates, meeting with utility representatives, contractors, property owners, and others to discuss adherence to policies and procedures. In addition, this position may be required to assist NCDOT as needed during emergencies and inclement weather and other duties as assigned.
Responsibilities
  • Administer contracts to ensure projects are constructed in accordance with NCDOT specifications, standard drawings, and policies
  • Review of driveway permits and encroachment agreements from initial submittal to final approval
  • Read and interpret highway construction plans and contracts
  • Review contractor submittals for conformance to project documents and specifications
  • Inspect and document utility installations and other encroachment work to verify conformance with plans, permits, and NCDOT standard drawings.
  • Communicate both verbally and in writing details of plans, project documents, policies, and procedures to convey information to engineers, surveyors, developers, members of the public, contractors, and NCDOT personnel.
  • Facilitate road addition process through review of subdivision plans, design standards and petitions.
Qualifications & Requirements
  • HS diploma or equivalent required. Technical college coursework in engineering preferred
  • Associates or BS Degree in Civil Engineering or Survey preferred
  • Minimum five-years’ experience in DOT utility, maintenance, and encroachment permit work required.
  • Strong written and communication skills required
  • Proficient in Microsoft programs and ability to learn new technology
  • Above-average math and problem-solving skills are required
  • Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing in English
  • Current driver’s license with a good 3-year driving record is required
  • US Citizen or Legal Resident
Physical Demands
This position requires minimal lifting of up to 50 pounds on an infrequent basis. Must be able to travel and tour work sites under adverse environmental conditions not limited to loud noise levels, high dust and dirt, and extreme temperature.
Expected Hours of Work
This position will be a full-time position. Office hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, with one unpaid hour for lunch each day. The position may require night or weekend work based on project construction schedules. Flexible schedules may be available with prior approval from an immediate supervisor. Inspectors are eligible for preapproved overtime at time and a half.
