Summary:
Reporting to the Director, Facilities Management, the Maintenance Mechanic I provides building repair and maintenance for the daily operation of assigned building(s) including inspection, minor repairs, and preventive maintenance of building systems and furniture, fixtures, and equipment for American Career College, West Coast University and Administration. The Maintenance Mechanic I also performs, supports, coordinates general operational services for all locations including common area maintenance and responding to requests for movement of materials, shipping and receiving, room setup and breakdown, cleaning, and spills. The Maintenance Mechanic I provides coverage at campuses as assigned.
Responsibilities:
- Performs common area maintenance and cleaning including spot cleaning of spills and accidents, conference rooms, walls, glass doors, and displays.
- Receives packages and deliveries, organizes and delivers packages to applicable associates.
- Provides assistance with the shipping and handling of large items and boxes.
- Replenishes lounge/breakroom related supplies, and maintains area cleanliness.
- Performs daily/weekly/monthly building audits and makes relevant corrections.
- Gathers site specific data for special projects.
- Performs and/or coordinates preventative maintenance; cleans, adjusts and repairs equipment and systems.
- Reads and interprets blueprints and equipment manuals.
- Participates in the coordination, monitoring, scheduling, and execution of facility-related activities, service/requests with contractors and special events.
- Utilize computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) to respond, manage, track, and update work requests. Assure requests are completed satisfactorily.
- Refer and coordinate work requiring more specialized or skilled crafts to the Supervisor, Facilities Management and follow up to completion.
- Assists with campus deliveries and furniture, fixtures, and/or equipment relocations.
- Maintain tools and equipment required for maintenance/repair tasks and inventory of related materials.
- Troubleshoots problems, repairs, tests, and makes adjustments as necessary.
- Assists in enforcing campus rules and building safety standards.
- Assists with and/or completes building-related repairs including drywall, painting, flooring, fixtures, and carpentry.
- Performs minor preventative maintenance, monitoring, and repairs to boilers, pumps, mechanical systems, electrical, lighting, and plumbing.
- Provides back-up campus coverage as needed/requested by the Director, Facilities Management or Supervisor, Facilities Management.
- Comply with all safety procedures, maintaining good housekeeping standards and safety of work areas. Identify danger and safety hazards, report them to the Facilities team, and propose methods to eliminate/address them.
- Provides restroom maintenance; monitors and restocks restroom supplies and removes trash.
- Maintains break room and galley; monitors and restocks supplies and removes trash.
- Assists with food service delivery receipt, restocking, and cleaning.
Education:
- 2 plus years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
- Associate’s degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school preferred.
Licenses/Certifications:
- Clean and valid driver’s license required.
- Facilities related certifications preferred.
Knowledge/Experience:
- Requires basic knowledge of standards and processes within a narrow scope of work. Typically requires minimum of 3 years of experience. May require vocational or technical education in addition to prior work experience.
Preferred:
- 4 plus years prior work related experience or other demonstrated ability to make responsible decisions and accept accountability.
- Working knowledge of electrical, plumbing, heating and air conditioning repairs and maintenance.
Qualifications/Skills:
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work with individuals, small groups, and teams at all levels of the organization.
- Ability to type routine reports, correspondence and e-mails.
- Strong customer service orientation and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word.
- Ability create/understand formulas to compute rate, ratio, percentage and graphs.
- Excellent time management skills and function well under pressure of deadlines and conflicting priorities.
- Self-starter capable of operating with little daily supervision and the ability to escalate issues when and where appropriate.
- Ability to manage and work effectively in a diverse student and associate community.
- Ability to exercise good judgment.
- Apply proper body mechanics and possess the ability to lift and move up to fifty (50) pounds.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Attention to details, highly organized and computer literate.
- Ability to work well in a fast-paced and professional environment.
- Able to function effectively in a customer service atmosphere.
- Flexible to meet the demands of the department including travel and after-hours work.
- Ability to drive/travel locally to respond to after-hours emergencies as requested.
- Ability to work after hours/weekends during pre-scheduled overtime as needed.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $24.00 - $26.00 per hour
