About Our School

Vertex Partnership Academies is the first-of-its-kind network of International public charter high schools dedicated to equality of opportunity, individual dignity, and our common humanity. Vertex student scholars are immersed in a culture of democratic discourse guided by the four cardinal virtues of Courage, Justice, Wisdom, and Temperance. Vertex was founded in the fall of 2022 in the Bronx, NY, with 110 students in the 9th grade. Each Vertex student scholar will choose either: (1) the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme that prepares them to enroll and thrive in premier colleges and universities in the country or abroad; or (2) the International Baccalaureate Career Programme that prepares them to graduate with a professional credential and directly enter the labor market with skills in one of four initial industry areas: (a) computer science; (b) health and medical services; or (c) construction/architecture, and (d) music video production. We intend to use the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program in grades 9 and 10 to prepare students for the Diploma and Career Programs in the 11th and 12th grades.


Vertex Partnership Academies is a Candidate School* for the Diploma and Career-related Programmes. This school is pursuing authorization as an IB World School. Vertex is seeking a Managing Director of Academics to provide guidance to the principal and lead network-level systems of instructional, cultural, and infrastructure support to our growing school. As Vertex grows, the MD of Academics will be instrumental in supporting a network of schools toward academic success. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated success as a high school principal who is innovative and committed to the Vertex cardinal virtues of Courage, Justice, Temperance, and Wisdom. The MD of Academics will report to the Chief Executive Officer and partner with network team personnel.


Responsibilities

  • Establish a coaching relationship with the Vertex principal, providing on-the-ground feedback and modeling in the leadership of the school.
  • Develop strategic plans that consider the goals of the school, strengths and areas of growth toward excellence.
  • Foster a culture of learning among school leaders and staff by implementing cycles of feedback and development: professional learning sessions driven by classroom observations and evidence of student skill mastery.
  • Co-create a Vertex-specific rubric or standard that marries NYS high school graduation expectations and International Baccalaureate standards, which will be used as the core for curriculum development, teacher growth, and backward mapping for student success.
  • Design and monitor key performance indicators related to student achievement, teacher development, student assessment/skill proficiency rates, culture expectations, etc.
  • Collaborate in the development, documentation, revision, and evaluation of the curriculum and related materials of instruction and professional development.
  • Set standards for a strong community culture that holds students to high expectations, reserves a space for parents to be active collaborators, and provides teachers with the appropriate support needed to nurture positive relationships with all constituencies
  • Partner with the CEO and other leaders to promote and monitor processes ensuring accountability regarding Vertex's expectations, teaching/learning principles, and professional collaboration.
  • Maintain a high standard of education and promote effective adaptations of all school activities as the school progresses.
  • Guide International Baccalaureate Middle Years, Diploma, and Career-related Programme authorization processes.
  • Design and implement intervention systems to target student skill gaps, including after-school, virtual tutoring, summer school.
  • Participate in opportunities to update and collaborate with the governance boards as well as leaders from Vertex partner schools.
  • Perform any other reasonable and relevant duties aligned to the fulfillment of the Vertex mission and vision as well as support the development of students and staff.


Qualifications

  • A Master's degree, required
  • Experience leading NYS high schools with knowledge of graduation requirements, required
  • SBL/SDL Certification or a minimum of 3 years of exemplary administrative/supervision experience, preferred
  • Previous International Baccalaureate experience, preferred

This role is a full-time, in-person, 12-month opportunity. As an employee, you are eligible for a benefits package, inclusive of paid time off, paid holidays, and a retirement plan. The salary range for this position is $150,000-$185,000. The final salary will be based on the salary scale, which is driven by candidate qualifications and previous experience in similar roles.
