We have an exciting opportunity for a Manufacturing Engineer to join our team with the Facilities and Testing Division.
The Manufacturing Engineer will:
- Provide expertise and experience in current and future advanced manufacturing engineering to lead and drive innovations throughout the engineering life-cycle. This will include participation in project level design reviews, drawing release reviews, build/buy decision trades, as well as collaborative work with design teams to identify best technical, cost, and schedule manufacturing solutions.
- Provide manufacturing engineering support for Design for Manufacturability and Assembly (DFMA), Best Practices and facility process capabilities.
- Efficiently coordinate manufacturing efforts from early design through manufacturing and assembly.
- Review and add Geometric Dimensions and Tolerances (GD&T) to drawings per ASME Y14.5.
- Develop, in coordination with machinists and production control, design engineering for required fixtures, tooling, efficiency, and safety.
- Develop, in coordination with estimators, machinists, and production control manufacturing plans for both piece parts and assemblies. This may include the identification of long-lead material procurements, machine operation sequence planning, and coordination of specialty operations with external vendors.
- Assist in the preparation of estimates for manufacturing/shop processing for a variety of machined or fabricated parts and assemblies for accurate planning and scheduling purposes.
- Assist in materials and hardware procurement process.
- Develop assembly procedures and processes, including alternative assembly methods.
- Assist in the preparation of job-kits for machining and assembly operations
- Assist in the review and development of CNC machine programs if needed.
- Identify hardware and special tooling requirements for assembly operations.
- Perform other duties as required.
Here’s What You’ll Need:
Requisition Qualifications:
- Requires a bachelor's degree in Engineering and a minimum of 2- 5 years of experience in the field or in a related area.
- Excellent verbal communication and written presentation skills, as well as excellent interpersonal skills.
- Strong computer skills and experience in utilizing software tools such as Odoo or JobBoss MRP, AutoCAD, Creo (version 5 preferred), MasterCAM, DFMPro, Windchill, Smartsheets, Microsoft Word and Excel, Office, Outlook, and Project.
- Experience in a manufacturing environment with emphasis in CNC, lathes, mills, composites, and sheet metal fabrication.
- Experience with aerospace metals manufacturing and machining including (but not limited to) aluminum, stainless steel, titanium, Hastelloy, and Inconel.
- Able to make independent, technical, and tactical decisions with a high attentiveness to detail.
- Perform other duties as required.
Requisition Preferences:
- BS degree in engineering or engineering technology from an accredited engineering school and five+ (5+) years of related engineering experience.
- 5-10 years' experience in a manufacturing environment with emphasis in CNC, lathes, mills, composites, and sheet metal fabrication.
- Mechanical, Industrial, or Manufacturing degree and ten years of experience in the field.
- Experience with machining, sheet metal fabrication, welding, and composites manufacturing.
- Experience with precision cleaning for Aerospace or Medical environment
- Experience in Aerospace, Defense or Automotive manufacturing environment.
- A familiarity with the NASA/JSC hardware development and Engineering Life Cycle processes.
- A working knowledge of the NASA/JSC drawing system JSC 8500.4, the Engineering Drawing Control Center (EDCC) and Design and Data Management System (DDMS).
- Familiarity of quality procedures and documentation for Class 1 Flight Hardware, including material test reports, certificates of compliance, and heat treat and other quality records.

Essential Functions
Work Environment
Generally, an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on task.
Physical Requirements
Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of time). May require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. (5% of time).
Equipment and Machines
Standard office equipment (PC, telephone, printer, etc.).
Attendance
Regular attendance in accordance with established work schedule is critical. Ability to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements.
