Position Description
The Applied Materials Division (AMD) at Argonne National Laboratory conducts applied
research to develop sustainable innovative technologies to improve the efficiency of resource and
energy utilization; to minimize our dependence on imported energy; and to enhance our national
security.
A position is now open for a dedicate, curious candidate to synthesize nanofibers and fibrous
membranes for battery and water filtration applications using electrospinning technique.
Material characterization and data analysis such as XRD or SEM will be also performed to
sample quality check. The candidate will be trained to operate various electrospinning machines
and is expected to operate the tools independently after training. The candidate will also support
other new material development tasks and help program lead with day-to-day jobs to ensure
effective and efficient program operations. The candidate needs to be self-motivated and work
well within a team as well as alone, have good troubleshooting abilities, and good
communication skills are important.

Position Requirements
To be considered you must have:
 An undergraduate or graduate degree in Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical
Engineering, or similar. Associates degree with background that is closely matched to
the position description.
 Experience in planning, designing and implementing experiments
 Hands-on experience in a laboratory or plant environment
 Knowledge of chemical solution preparation and materials synthesis is a plus
 Experience in material characterization is a plus
 Ability to work well within a team as well as alone
 Abilities in oral and written communication

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $68,000.00 - $74,000.00 per year
